Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Is working at Enbridge really this bad?

Looking at other posts around here and this company looks like one of the worst on here. I’m an ex-Exxon employee and I thought that was the worst place an engineer could work. I really can’t image Enbridge being worse. What’s so bad?

As another ex-Exxon person, it's not that bad. Not nearly as toxic as Exxon.

Get a job in Canada and steer clear of Houston.

Yes, it is this bad. As you can clearly tell on these boards the bullying is not only in office but they hide behind a message board anonymously bullying eachother. They are to scared to say it to eachother in person because money from the job is more important to them.
They get very nasty and rude to eachother and blame company. They are stupid.

Yes! It’s a toxic workplace. New office for Houston but still the same toxic environment and workforce.

Unfortunately, this company has been on a serious downhill slide for a decade or more. Executive leadership bears full responsibility as always. The current leadership group at the director and VP levels are grossly incompetent in far too many cases. A direct result of political appointments and the promotion of those who talk a good game but really don't know their group's business to the degree necessary to be successful. The HR belief is that a good leader can lead any type of group regardless of their background or expertise. When the rubber hits the road you find out how sadly mistaken that belief can be. Case in point, the expertise that walked out of this company during VWO a few years ago was shocking and I don't think many at the senior leadership level even recognized it. It's too bad; it was a great company to work for years ago but I don't have any confidence that the current senior leaders can manage difficult times. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

The presidents and directors talk about leadership but they can't lead,
because they don't specifically know the work.
The contractors know the work and tell the so called leaders what they want to hear, or direct them into situations where they pay them more money.
It's pretty bad for the rank and file employees who try to do a good job.

Company isn’t that bad - depends on what your are looking for.

Enbridge is a less a pipeline / energy company and more an asset manager like Brookfield anymore. Less interest in running an energy business and more focused on profits from assets.

If you are an engineer with aspirations towards accounting then you could do well. Just put your practical experience in the closet and learn how to do spreadsheets and earnings / cost analaysis. That’s all the combo at cares about.

Most positions that require know how of the industry are outsourced to low cost providers. If you want these types of jobs apply to them partners that run enbridge.

Unfortunately it is really that bad now. Even in the last 4 years alone things have noticeably declined.

There's a serious issue with seemingly endemic amorality within mid to upper management.

You might be fine for a year or two, but eventually you will encounter a situation that makes you sick and want to look for another job asap.

Just my opinion, I think that this company was great to work for a decade ago. Within the last 7 or 8 years, they’ve had mass layoffs, removal of benefits, and other such measures that brings down morale. I came in right whenever this was all happening and I feel like this place was still a great place to work. I think a good portion of it is perception. A lot of people who have been acquired over the last several years, specifically legacy spectra (Specifically Houston), feel like they got the wrong end of the deal coming over from their legacy company to Enbridge. I think a lot of it is perspective. It was a lot better company years ago. But I can assure you there are a LOT WORSE out there.

Extremely crooked company. Apparently anyone with ethics aren't welcomed here. The Houston location is by far worst than anything I have experienced.
