Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

Non existent long term strategy

The teams after the ADLs layoffs have been struggling, management came out with a strategy today, looks like they are trying to figure things out. The leadership in C1 is clueless but they want to imitate big tech, change management is tough. Some changes can be implemented as Big Bang others have to be gradual. They destroyed what took years to build. The expensive tech and product leads have got distracted and things are falling behind. C1 hired clowns at top positions and they made it a circus!!!

This is a misunderstanding that “Doing” the “Events” is being agile, it is far from it, agility is a mindset, and from my experience I have seen that Engineers have hard time adopting that mindset, they go in a rabbit hole etc, the scrum master acts as a coach and helps team to move forward and deliver continuous value. It is sad that the top management of C1 also had the same view.

Using Jira and following agile is super easy. Every other company that isn't a bureaucratic mess has the tech lead doing all of this.

I do not agree with the last poster, the role of scrum master and project manager is very different and not all scrum masters were non technical. The work that scrum masters were doing is not eliminated, it is now being done by POs or Engineering lead. As they do not understand agile that well, they are following the practice without understanding the spirit behind it.

I felt that C1 made a right decision to let the engineering manager/team lead to take the PM responsibility instead of using the none technical scrum master to manage the project. That is the industry trending. Scrum master couldn’t even follow the technical conversation, how can they help to manage the software development project? That’s a joke.

I learned that the engineers will be taking on the ADLs responsibilities which is nuts. It should be going to the project managers as that seems much more natural. Prob just another instance of more work/responsibilities without pay increase.

Let me guess their new strategy is to hire technical program managers who will do agile and take over the engineering lead and product manager role. Or just rehire ADLs lol.
