It was/is all about "Make the Boss look good".
In our group in Warren, our "customer" was our EGM.
Our EGM's "Customer" was his director.
Our EGM will be promoted in 2023...

Was all about "making someone else look good" in the meetings.
I worked in manufacturing planning.
Our Group is still lost - last 2 years.
No Tangible results on the plant floor yet...

They will target you in advance and set you up for a subpar performance. Higher paid, older workers, those they just don’t like. It doesn’t matter. And the culture is toxic. There are better places to work, especially for those in tech.

My last day as well! I did receive my full bonus so this was completely out of left field. And yes, this was intentional planned layoff. Good Bye GM!

If they fire you after a bad review, they might claim it was for cause to cheat you out of Unemployment

I hate the part about 'we deserve the best'. It just feels unprofessional and unnecessary. If they want to say sub par performance - go ahead and say it. Whatever. But 'we deserve the best' is awful. Are we to believe that they themselves are 'the best'?

I doubt it...

@OP+1lowdJf4 - here.
This is how it went.
Director and HR Manager on Teams meet.
Asked me to be on Camera.

Director says "You had a below par performance review.
We are GM - We deserve the best (I almost Scoffed - I can run circles around my brown-noser, bullsh-tting colleagues)
Hence we are going to terminate your employment.
Today is your last day of work.
HR will take over from here"

HR explained few procedural details and said Good bye.

Also laid off today in Austin, the only negative thing in my review was that I wasn't outspoken enough. When I asked for specifics they couldn't provide and my boss wouldn't discuss it further with me. GM lied to everyone about layoffs but I wouldn't expect anything less from the overpaid id--ts they have in management.

Same here. My boss even called me at 5:30pm yesterday to ensure I accepted the meeting on Tue morning with the note to work from home. They want to please wall-street to keep their stocks up and cover any loses with pushing towards an All Electrical Future. Toyota is not even doing that. Not sure how they are thinking seriously. It is always the people that are suffering and corporations that always win.

First below par rating in 21 years...

I'll always believe that these are targeted layoffs due to the high salary / retirement / pension / healthcare / etc. that come with age and years of experience...

Sorry to hear it, OP. I went through it recently. It was a shock, but I rebounded. You will too.

Just had my conversation. This was my first below par rating in my 21 years at GM. I'm disappointed in the company given the message less than a month ago that there would be no layoffs. Oh well, time to move on.

Extra security at the gates. One lane blocked at each gate. Very eerie mood.

Same thing for me. I have a 15 minute meeting scheduled with my manager and an HR director based in my location at 9 AM Tuesday, 2/28. The email states that it is a confidential meeting to be taken from home. I am to “work from home all day.”

I’ve been with GM 10 years with all positive performance reviews until this year. My manager, as late as last week, mentioned the opportunity that more internal roles will open up after February, as I had been looking to move teams for a long time.

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation.
I would probably do some soul searching on why you might be in this predicament and take some notes on the whys, hows and what you will do to improve.
Be positive and courteous, wear professional clothes to the meeting.
Hopefully it's not a dismissal but a "let's improve" situation.
