Thread regarding SAP layoffs

My hopes

I was gutted when I found out. I’ve been the biggest promoter of SAP over the years. After almost 20 years for them to do this when let’s get real. The other tech layoffs gave them an out. I truly believe if there were no other big companies doing layoffs this decision would not have been made. Especially since they still made money in Q4.
What is not talked about is the past 3 years most groups have been understaffed and no backfills have been done. We had been overworked stressed out. No doubt our physical health and mental health were affected. My ask of everyone lucky enough to survive. Make it known in the next pulse survey trust in leadership should be zero. Also make it known in Glassdoor by leaving a review of SAP. Congrats to all that are safe. To all my colleagues affected this is just a stepping stone to the next adventure

For those long term employees that have been impacted by this round of layoff - I am sorry. If you have been around for 15+ year, your salary must be pretty high which makes you a target for layoff. The sad part is; regardless of your consistent high performance, dedication and loyalty - none of that is considered, just your pay cheque amount.

SAP has no sympathy for individuals that are reaching retirement age and very hard to find another job, they just kick you to the curb and let you rot on your own. The HR teams are totally useless when it comes to career and future planning for the employees. The only know how to report that SAP is one of the best places to work.

Again, I am truly sorry - I wish you all the best!!

I’m hitting my 20 next month and I’m out as well. I’ll still get my 20 yr anniversary gift at least haha. Lots of people in our location were over 15 years and several were at 20+. We can try to find another job or not. There was no ‘lift and shift’ done, just a long severance date so we can transition everyone staying/replacing us. Maybe we’ll get an employee survey before we’re out lol. (I’m still pretty salty and would be even if I wasn’t let go)

The institutional knowledge that you've surely acquired over 20 years is itself invaluable, and to not even attempt to find you a new role is appalling -- and sadly unsurprising. So sorry to hear this, and sadly I know from my colleagues that you're far from the only one.

Great suggestion to share our disgust, shock and disappointment in the next employee survey and on Glassdoor.

I'm astounded that someone with 20 years experience in SAP can be just let go like that. I think everyone can understand and accept that things change and technology evolves. And it's inevitable some colleagues would be in roles or on teams that simply don't have much of a future. Even if direct product knowledge is no longer required, surely someone that has demonstrated the ability to learn and adapt over the years can do it once again and the utmost should be done to accommodate them in a different role. You'll most likely bring that experience to another tech company and potentially a competitor. Why invest in someone for that long to do this at the end.

There was a mail today from works council which was quite strong in criticism of how this was handled. Those of us in Europe are lucky to have people who will fight and look out for the workers. Granted they've an easier platform that allows them to do as such due to the vast differences in employment law between the EU and US.

Only a board member or corrupt works council member would down vote your post.

Take sometime to recover and find your next passion.

Best of luck in the future.
