Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Live from Basking Ridge

I'm in the Ghost Town (aka Basking Ridge) 2x a week and it has been empty until recently.
Tuesday is crowded but bec the place is so enormous, you only really know when you go to cafe between 12 and 2pm.
The EY guys were there in January (Ernest and Young consultants) so I'd expect something either now or in Oct again. Funny thing about the EY guys, they wear light grey EY vests...
Anyway - best of luck to all tomorrow
I'm close to retirement (24 years)! a few calls were cancelled today due to higher ups not being available - our guy never misses so something could be up

Oct layoffs - in our group, we lost 2 minority males and 2 females so I'm not sure about the diversity retention. I worked with the 2 males and both were performers - one was an up and comer.

@1ute+1ldlYXcq LOL they’ve spent millions renovating a building in Orangeburg NY, to update it to look like newer Verizon buildings, just to close it and sell it a year later. No one is safe around here. I’ve also seen them hire 30 people for a project just to lay them off or move them in 6 months.

Retail is actually going to in person sales training classes as we speak. So the rumors of corporate stores closing in the near future is false.

The EY guys were in the basking ridge cafe back in Jan when I saw them

Also, lots of "visitors" in the front lot - that garage was empty for years with no one coming in

If I go in on Thursdays - there are only a couple of other cars in the underground lot

I don't think it's a RIF, I reckon its more of a restructuring. My boss has been pretty tightlipped but she strongly hinted that it was coming for indirect account managers tomorrow. At the same time I've got a buddy a few territories away saying they just announced that they increased headcount at every every retail store in their territory.

IAMs that I know have been being discouraged from overtime for a while now because Verizons been trying to save that money for retail, so if the EY guys really were In basking ridge, it might be that they were finding room in the budget for an increase in retail headcount.
