Promotions / Market Adjustments?

I got my 3.5% “merit increase” but was promised a promotion and my manager said they will review it soon. Am i being lied to?

If the announcement of merit increase would be on april's fools it would be much more grotesque. meets expectations = 3.75

In my division, there are still promotion battles being fought for ppl that managers really need. I would guess end of April, but it’ll take a while to get a new job anyway

The answer regarding “promotion cycle” is very true. To understand it better you need to think in terms of the annual budget. Those are submitted at year end. They would have to include any anticipated salary increase. Changes to the budget mid-year are rare and require an exception. Promotions, as a result, have become synonymous with budget cycles. Bottom line: you might be promoted next year but more than likely you were lied to.

Fiserv loves moving the goalposts. Too many people have experienced it. Don't bank on anything.

You will not receive the promotion. The promotion cycle just passed. You are being told this likely because your manager would like to get you the promotion, but does not have the pull. There are countless managers in the same position.

If you were told that I am sure it will happen.

If you are a manager who doesn't have connections - it is very difficult to get a very deserving associate a promotion.

Took me over 3 years to get one... started the process with my manager & after clearing a bunch of hurdles they moved me to a different manager which basically reset the process. Then after weeks pulling together a "this person walks on water" promotion request template, I was told there was a new process to follow which reset everything again.

They eventually got their promotion but was so fed up having to wait so long that they left shortly after.

"We would give you the promotion, but it won't come with a salary adjustment since it was just increased. We think it is best if we just keep waiting."

If you have been told you're getting a promotion and keep waiting... Wait for the next statement coming... "Don't worry about the title. If your doing the work then that's what you are"

However when you verify employment it will show your lower title. Keep that in mind.

What was your performance rating to get a 3.5% merit increase and promotion?

I got the same answer from my manager…. Probably a standard saying from all managers.

I’m not holding my breath at all with what senior leaders tell us. No trust at all

Consider 3.5% a promotion because it is certainly exceptional. "Far exceed" would have land you just 3%.
