Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I suspect Wells Fargo leaders have been trained in Coercive Control

Coercive Control is a pattern of behaviors intended to exploit or dominate people. The intent is to gain and maintain power.

Signs of Coercive Control:

  1. Unreasonable demands, followed by threats (layoffs) and pressure
  2. Financial control
  3. Bullying behavior
  4. Restricting your activities
  5. Monitoring your activities through technology
  6. Intimidation
  7. Removing your freedom and autonomy
  8. Gaslighting
  9. Shifting the goal posts so you can’t meet the goals no matter how hard you try.
  10. Reinforcing hierarchical roles

We have some good managers, but Wells Fargo leaders seem to be extraordinarily well versed in controlling and manipulative behaviors while reducing their employees’ ability to take action or stand up for themselves.

OP there are varying degrees of these behaviors exhibited by most companies. Some of this is subjective, some self imposed and yes some unethical. But no sympathy to share, we work within the culture we have or we find another enemy to work for.

They make you guys in the 'layoff mods' HR team work weekends?

Sorry, man. Maybe you should complain on Bullhorn about that.

Comparing at will employment at Wells Fargo to slavery is beyond ridiculous.

Child labor used to be legal, slavery was. Just because it was, never meant it was right. Same goes for WF.

the signer of the checks (metaphorically speaking) gets to set the rules. It's that way in every business, large and small, but especially so in large corporate structures.

there's a contract. you get paid for following the rules and delivering something that is perceived to be of value.

that's all work is, pure and simple.

Once you can depersonalize it that way - you realize you, not leadership, have 100% of the control. Don't like the contract? Find another one to your liking.

Even if they’re not formally trained in it they learn it from mimicking the people above them.
It’s what’s expected.

Agreed on all 10, esp. "financial control". Forcing employees who are not in WFA, etc. to become regulated users and forcing outside accounts to WF control or get fired. Bunch of dictators. Telling employees what they can and can not do outside of work because of being forced to be a regulated user.
