Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Confirmed. NO focal in FY24 org wide

Just confirmed in our all hands by our GM.

No formal focal across Oracle in FY24, regardless of business or individual performance. Reason given was the economic climate.

How does this make you feel?

With focals managers had to review employee performance, and employees could give feedback, comment, and correct/dispute whatever the manager said. And in the end both manager and employee had to sign off on it. All that to say they might not be able to justify RIFing with the focal system in place. Maybe it has something to do with Texas employment law, now that HQ is in Texas?

If you're not already, I'd start sending your manager weekly status reports and be sure to cc yourself. You'll have a documentation trail of your performance and accomplishments. I don't know if in the end it'll do any good. If nothing else, you'll have good documentation for your resume and notes for interviews.

I found my status reports really valuable at focal time in highlighting all my accomplishments. Which reminds me, I remember for a few years before I got the ax, my manager and their manager would tell us not to spend a lot of time on our focals. Maybe because they didn't want us to fully document all of our accomplishments? My manager confided in us that the information in our focals really didn't sway them into giving us promotions or raises. All the promotion and raise requests get submitted in April/May, before we had even finsihed our focals. The requests take weeks to work their way up the approval ladder and to get processed. And that's how they were able to tell you at your focal review if/that you got a promotion or raise, and when any raise would be reflected in your paycheck.

Transparency is a thing of the past. Since this past Nov AI has changed the world. Alot of things willl be better and other things will be obsolete. Mid mgmt VPs will be consolidated. Hopefully enough letters have been written to upper mgmt and authorities that certain corrupt VPs will be fired and prosecuted.

I think a distinction needs to be made between focals, which are employee evaluations, vs. compensation changes. I have never seen a year when focals were not performed. No compensation changes? That I have seen, though I have never seen that announced at an all hands meeting. In my experience, all hands are little more than pep talks, nothing of substance that you didn't already know is shared in them.

Might a new hire GM, VP, etc. be more transparent? Perhaps.

I was on this all hands too. It was the new GM of energy water GBU and he did in fact say this. Get over it.

I’m curious why people are saying a GM would never say this? Is transparency that rare at O? Eventually people would know there wasn’t a focal happening.

No GM would announce that, ever, even if it was true.

Where is the budget for the VP promotions coming from. There seem to be some VP promotions in every organization especially Cloud and Saas.

It is amazing how our brain is tricked to think we can get something in future if you work hard.

Vocals are a joke and have no correlation on raise or promotion. A waste of time.

I was working at 30%. Ratcheting down to 15%

And you'll still be in the 90 percentile.

I will have someone watching a certain mid mgt vp.
I don't think he can control himself from taking anything he can from Oracle.
