It’s a corporation. And a big one. The corporate officers only have one goal: to maximize their outrageous compensation packages and stock grants. That is the number one priority. How they get there, they really don’t care. There will be difficulties in coordinating work out of India due to language, barriers, inexperience in the auto industry, etc. Probably lower quality cars will be the end result and more recalls. Nothing is really free.
But as long as Americans continue to let companies get away with it, and there’s no penalty for stock buybacks, expect this behavior to continue. Mary and the other over-paid fat cats can destroy morale and the long-term company prospects because after two years of their comp packages they are set for life.
It then will become the problem of the next over-paid CEO to try to fix it.

You get what you pay for ...
just open some mathematical modeling done in India and look at them....
Cost is not the only of up front costs,
They do not teach that in MBA schools in the United States!
Tesla will eat your matket share while you busy debogging Indian models
Good luck US auto in Michigan

TCS took over the employees. TCS is still providing engineering services to GM. When the article was published there were contracts between TCS and GM for five years. Sounds like it's continuing.

@1xuy+1lMuSVAS: ignorance is bliss. You have statement from 2018. Do you know 2019 update? GM never went back on their word after making a comment, right?

General Motors Bangalore Technical Center

The General Motors India Technical Center, or GMTC-I, is located in the city of Bangalore, Karnataka, India.

Address:
Units 4-8, 3rd floor, Creator Building
International Tech Park
White Field Road
Bangalore, Karnataka, 560066
Telephone: 080-41184000-01
Employee information: TBD
Housing a Design Studio and an Engineering center, the facility is involved in Design, Analysis and Development of vehicles and Propulsion Systems for the Indian as well as for global markets. It contributes to “a significant percentage of the GM global programs”, according to a GM press release.

GM India Withdrawal
GM stopped cars in India in 2017, BUT operations at the GM Technical Center in India will remain. GM executives have stated on various occasions that engineering is a global function for the automaker, and that the GMTC-I is an integral part of that function.

“The world-class engineering capability we have at GMTC-I in Bangalore, India, is playing a significant role in GM delivering its commitment to create a world with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion,” said GM Vice President of Global Propulsion Systems, Dan Nicholson, in October 2018.

“As well as looking to the future of personal mobility, GMTC-I plays an important role in GM’s global core business: designing and engineering world-class vehicles that inspire passion for safer tomorrow,” said Brian McMurray, GMTC-I vice president engineering and operations upon the unveiling of the REEV concept developed at the GMTC-I facility.

It's all about cheap overseas labor to reduce costs, while they sell the product at full price in the US.

Profit is the only thing that matters

They could've sent it to gm Mexico ( about as trustworthy as Amish electricians wiring your home), or gm Brasil ( where's all that Ethanol technology, Mr Reuss?).
