May this clown show continue to fail. This company is a pathetic, greedy POS joke! I will be eating popcorn, watching this ship sink. sc-mbags!

There’s no panic. Literally a years worth of collected data analyzed to determine where the opportunity was. Where is the most time wasted in the store? Behind the computer screen reviewing book orders and upping numbers. Let someone else do that remotely for everyone and free that time up to be customer facing.
It’s not rocket science.
Labor, and for YEARS through all of the leadership changes we have been told this, is our most controllable expense.
This is basic business 101. Labor is your biggest investment and most controllable expense. Operative - INVESTMENT. The stores are your cost centers - WHERE you make money. James Rivers made a BAD investment in a dying business. Literally beating the dead horse. Really bad decision on this investment. Panic by the James River family. FAIL, FAIL, FAIL!
For those of you who are rallying for follett/JRC- you obviously have your noses so far up corporate a***s that you are blinded by what is really going on.
No one is safe.
This is not a test. This is an actual emergency. You need to start looking for a new job now.
Accept the position until you find something else. For many of us, we were offered the new title and if we decline it, we are not eligible for a severance package. We will pay out your vacation, but, here's your check and get the eff out.
They are banking on a lot of people leaving to hire new completely inexperienced at a much lower slave rate, er, pay rate. They will walk into a sh** show completely innocent and then within 2 months, be looking for something else.
I don't know ANY store that can only employ 1 or 2 people and survive.
Yes, I am rambling, but I am so incensed about what is being done to our fellow employees by the corporate "people", that I cannot even think straight.
I am only here until I find something else or our campus dumps the contract because they are in violation of the contract.
So different.
Plenty of us remember the last restructuring attempt.
But yes, this time is different. Mhm.
This is a change we haven’t seen before. Not the same centralized course materials that failed us in the past but a different approach to find a solution.
And the need for GM will always be there so, not going anywhere.
This can work.
"This is the new Follett, leaner, not the same as it was even 5 years ago but, it isn’t going anywhere."
Bruh, to say it is not going anywhere is complete denial. Follett has been slowly sold off over the last several years. This is just another sloppily executed patch. Nothing will improve. The save in labor might buy another couple years, but it is just a matter of time....The family managed to sell a bad investmest to Jackson River.
What exactly did anyone expect? They bought a flailing company, they weren’t going to just let it continue business as usual. They need to make their investment profitable. Labor, and for YEARS through all of the leadership changes we have been told this, is our most controllable expense. Yes, others cut, slashed, diced, etc. our labor budgets and headcount for so there wasn’t much left to take. They spent the last year assessing, making changes along the way, but learning where they thought the opportunities were to adjust, keep the majority of people on board still, yes, be thankful some still have jobs, and redirect assets and labor to where they saw the best chance is to turn things around. A lot of people were collateral damage but there are new opportunities coming. This is the new Follett, leaner, not the same as it was even 5 years ago but, it isn’t going anywhere. Be thankful too that they’re trying something different and not the same old tired labor restructuring as before. The sun will rise tomorrow, this is going to sting for days but, there are some that will seize the opportunities that are coming and some that will be happy being the victim. To each their own but, support your peers, those who are gone and those who are choosing to trudge forward.
What grammar are you referring to specifically? I haven’t spent hour looking through all the posts so some examples would be nice.
I just heard the Wicked Witch of Northridge was impacted. About dang time.
Certainly not a sinking ship. Also, schools don’t care what happens within Follett. If they change to B&N, they will quickly realize that it’s not any better. While I strongly disagree with the way they did it, it’s probably time for a restructuring. Probably would be better to start with the top heavy staff first.
With some of the grammar I’m seeing in these posts, I’m less concerned with the decisions to shuffle some people around and more interested in who decided to hire you in the first place. You work in higher education….
Goodbye RMs and GVPs. Farewell
What RM was ‘promoted’ last week? Did I miss an announcement? I would also anticipate an RM realignment. Maybe even a consolidation.
Our store is being handed over to the computer tech! He has no idea how to do anything management. Meanwhile, our long time manager and ops manager are eliminated. Crazy!
I don't understand handing over full run of a store to an ASM that has no idea how to even bill A/R accounts. This person has no idea now to clear the invoice wizard, negative on hands, RNP, Aged RNP, apply payments... ARGGGGG!!! You dumped our CM and our GM, the only two people that know the campus and how our store is run and kept that id--t?
Any word on 2210?
For months I have been talking to my regional manager about looking for a new job. He begged me not to go, things were going to get better, change was coming. This, this is what I was waiting for? I hope the poster about regionals is right.
Anyone have insight as to how they picked the favorites because I know some d-mbasses that were promoted while some real surprises were let go or demoted. Just more evidence of this company being out of touch and playing favorite pets.
Several new accounts going out for RFP. Three significant ones out west. There is little chance we keep them and what chance there was, will dissolve once this hits the campuses. RCC, Pasadena, Saddleback, good luck keeping all of the stores that come with those contracts.
Hadn’t thought about the regionals too much. But playing conspiracy theorist, look at the “promotion” of a regional manager from last week. A chosen one that would be protected from a layoff by certain folks in power. If this were a movie, it would make sense.
Regional Managers need to be ready for a realignment next. And don’t think it can’t happen. I was a Regional Manager and saw this company bend over backwards to get me on a plane to a store to fire a manager in person on a Wednesday just to terminate me that Friday. They’ll use you and throw you out with the trash.
I joined Follett over a decade ago and found this site. Since that time there have been endless predictions of a sinking ship.
Yeah leadership sucks, yeah they layoff good people, yeah it's all about the money.
But the company isn't closing any time soon. These sinking ship posts are no more accurate in 2023 than they were in 2013.

As someone has been here 10 years, this time feels different. I am at one of the larger stores and I haven't seen it like this before.
By POS he means corePOS, right..?
