Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Timing of cloud migrations was wrong

I think Sabre should have stopped the cloud migrations when covid hit. Among the many reasons you want to technologically advance by moving to the cloud, ultimately you're doing that to get the velocity to capacity. With the business going down due to covid I think Sabre had good enough tech and plenty of capacity to support the limited demand.... They should have invested to acquire and retain customers post covid , instead of spending millions and millions to cloud providers for tech and capacity that is not needed... In my opinion it was a questionable leadership .

@1aed+1lCdmhok hits the nail on the head.

Plus, no matter what c-suite will always get all their perks.. like 100%+ variable compensation pays. All this is available in sec filings

Imo Sabre should have gone cloud much earlier.. but they experimented with all possible cloud tech. Leaders.. sigh..

A lot of cash burnt and keeps on burning on unwanted extracurricular activities.
cloud migration is not the problem.
people are applauded and awared for getting certifications rather than those actually doing the work.
but moving to cloud has given the privileges to the unknowledgeable to keep things running when not in use. so now others have to face the price of cost cuts

| Do you like maintaining physical servers?

The point that OP was making wasn't about physical servers vs containers / virtual servers but the timing of making the move.

Sabre made a huge commitment for purchasing cloud services that OP felt was a bad decision in light of the business downturn caused by the pandemic.

investors want to see both revenues and new technologies . priority is always revenues , cost savings and customer acquisition . I am not working in sabre anymore, but why should I or someone put money on sabre stock even at low 3.8$ Sabre reached unfortunately market cup similar to C level series start up. Better would be for Sabre to go back to private, but I doubt someone would buy the debt. It's very sad for such a great company with great history and amazing workforce .

A more stable, predictable environment was needed along with updating the platforms (felt like a mummy covered in bandaids) and moving to the Cloud would force that update. However big PSS customers were already Leary or dropping off already, then Covid etc shut down customers with many never ever coming back. Nobody knew how much Covid would ripple changes through everything and the world before would not magically return as it was. Probably should have slowed down on rush to the Cloud but what’s done is done now.

For all of you downvoting this post, why?

i don't necessarily agree with its conclusions. Sabre had the misfortune of having made a huge investment in new technological capability but ran into a totally unpredictable downturn in its business brought about by the pandemic.

That said though, Sabre's mad rush into adopting the cloud showed more than a bit of recklessness. I don't believe management really understood the technology and plunged headlong simply because it seemed like everybody was doing it.
