Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Observations of Corporate Worker Types

The "No Hoper": Characteristics may include:

  • Eyes focused on work queues only
  • Limited pattern recognition no matter years of experience (Groundhog's Day)
  • Dense. Conversations about simple things feel laborious
  • Reports detailing assigned ticket volumes, other paperwork metrics are important
  • Happy hour? Yes please. Enjoy socializing w/ all co-workers

The "Hope Filled":

  • Much hubris about their real value
  • On mgmt's secret list of "up and comers to watch out for"
  • Simulate being their own boss and push off annoying work to "No Hopers"
  • Look up to "Everyone Else". See bottom.
  • Happy hour? Maybe. Are any senior/mgmr roles going to be there?

The "Seasoned":

  • Feet touching ground, not living in a simulation
  • Complacency is in healthy range but any minute could tip the other way
  • Identified and accepted the "No Hopers" and answer their questions over and over
  • Annoyed by "Hope Filled" yet still make effort to help them in hopes they unrealistically become "Seasoned"
  • Happy hour? Maybe. Is my work friend going to be there?

The "Soon To Be Retired in 5 years":

  • Coasting and hoping to finish it all out
  • Expect little to nothing and don't want to rock the boat
  • Is the realistic future for the "Seasoned"
  • Happy hour? Maybe. You'll know I'm there if I show up.

The "Everyone Else":

  • Cracked the code of how to make it in corporate world
  • Sold more of their soul than anyone else and worked harder for it
  • Training for that next tri!
  • Terribly unininteresting corporate tool but has more money than you
  • Happy Hour? Never asked to go in first place (and not hurt one bit).

No ill will intended.
