Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Lazy new female hires - fakes their way in.

I noticed lately they are hiring a lot of young females in AI/ML/Data science/Data engineering type roles. I noticed that they don't anything. They use AI and one junk analysis a day. They are gone by 4 pm because..kids, School pickup or whatever reason. They don't acknowledge any messages and find a way to deflect any responsibilities. I reported one to my director and he terminated one contractor that was not not doing much. But we are stuck with a couple of FTEs we can't simply RIF, he's citing legal/HR . There seems to be a pattern emerging with these hires. They are using proxies to pass interviews. One girl refused to come in camera and after i insisted she did the next day and she looks different than the one in remember in the interview. Interestingly the video was blurry both times, lighting was off, and hair party covering sides of face. Since I don't have 100% proof I can't report to HR. What are my options? Director says just to build up a case n put them on PIP in a few months n layoff next year to avoid legal is issues. Is he being overly cautious? Now I don't have funding to hire 2 more and stuck with 2 useless duds, scam artists

Won't wade into the seksism issue, but i will say it's very common for mediocre people that show a penchant for brown-nosing get promoted over smarter, hungrier folks. No leader wants their incompetence exposed.

And, there are plenty of overachievers that can do more in 3 hours than many do in 8 + commute, so I will NEVER hold it against any parent or caregiver that is taking care of others... or someone that just wants to check out as long as they're performing well. UHG is a low bar.

@mq haven't you heard? Head hunters using proxies for interviews. You are hearing complains about females since these headhunter seem to target females. How else is he supposed to report what he's observing if he's seeing this happening more with female hires.look it up - a woman was fired from Optum as she was using her husband to do all the work

To all you losers hating on my OP - the lazy fte gave her notice and she'll be gone even before I do. Guess she has it planned all along or someone from about gave her a RIF. So my instincts were right all along. Have a pleasant day !

The fluorescent lights flickered. My project was bleeding red.

They left at 4 PM sharp. Kids. School pickup. Always the same. Blurry cameras. Hair hiding half their faces. Proxies, I knew it. Scam artists, every one.

My director told me to wait. Build a case. Document everything. So I did.

Night after night, I stayed late, compiling evidence. Screenshots. Timestamps. Patterns. I filled a folder with their lies.

Last Tuesday, I found something else.

A video file, unnamed, sitting in my shared drive. I opened it. Grainy footage of an interview—my interview, from years ago. But the face wasn't mine. The voice wasn't mine. Someone else had aced those questions for me.

I didn't remember that.

I tried to delete it. Couldn't. The folder was locked.

The next morning, they were all gone. Desks empty. No goodbyes. No trace.

But my mouse moved on its own. A document opened. My own case file—against me. Performance reviews I'd never seen. Screenshots of me leaving early. Blurry photos from my own webcam at odd hours.

A message appeared, line by line, as if someone was typing from inside the machine:

"You noticed the pattern. But you never looked in the mirror."

"They were here to replace you."

"They already have."

I heard a click. My badge access revoked. My screen went black.

I looked up. There, across the office, sat a woman I'd never seen. Same cube as mine. Blurry camera. Hair hiding her face.

She waved.

The lights went out. When they came back on, I was gone. Just an empty desk. A single document left behind:

"New hire orientation: Day 1."

@k3 is this offshore or onshore? I noticed offshore team quality dwindling off late. They function like fresh out of school, have no LinkedIn profiles, claim N numbers of years experience. Very sketchy!!

@k1 because these companies are using female proxies, probably because people have a hard time imagining women can cheat like this..I guess of is still s-xism but on the cheaters side for using female's for scamming

I just wish they would hire people in the USA and have given up on seeing white straight males join the ranks.

@k0 why are you targeting only women? This seems really s-xist!

@jz exactly! The reason these ladies dont do much or respond to group messages is because the more they do the more likely they'll be caught.. it's all part of the training. They have no issues chit chatting but the moment it's real work suddenly it'll be alwaya something each time why it's not done, for a few months till they get comfortable. Recently if was the found that a female employees husband was doing the actual work right there at Optum! She was terminated.

There are plenty of trolla here mocking the OP. Once one of these fake non qualified Indian employee joins your team or displaces your role you'll understand how serious this issue is. There are Indian consulting firms that specialize in proxy interview candidates. Recently CITI had to fire an entire team after the proxy ring was busted.

@j2 we now only hire contractors and convert a very few good ones to FTEs. That's the least risky approach. Easy to get rid of a bad contractor.

If you are not their manager just stay your lane. Assign them tasks if your role needa you to, track completions and report. For any slippages, state 2 is not enough as work is not being completed. Provide evidence, RC etc. they will be gone soon enough on once the right person gets pi---d. Seen that happen over and over again in 40 years of me career... I don't care what these forums say, I have seen time and time again that the ones most likely to get RIFed are the ones delivering least value. It's not perfect of course, have seen the opposite happen sometimes but the good ones end up getting even better jobs while the deserving ones don't and stuck. Gen Z is not interested in impressing anyone or do no more than bare minimum. So pay less and hire more

@ch I am pretty sure OP is aware of their time zones. I am guessing they are in same time zone. I have co-workers leaving at 3 pm my time cuz I am in CA, not gonna complain they are leaving at 3. So if OP is complaining the ladies are leaving at 4, that means they are leaving early WITHOUT completing the work. I dont think OP would have been complaining they are leaving at 4 if the work was being done. I have dealt with similar situations before and all too aware of what the OP is talking about unfortunately. We now have 3 rounds of interviews and take screenshots after dealing with interview proxy issues.

@dd not delivering any work is what the real concern is. Not that they are online only 6 hours a day. I'll be delighted if they can only 4 hours a day and complete all the reasonable assignments. I have had roles where I barely worked 3-4 hours a day and was still delivery above and beyond what was expected and got great appraisals and bonus. Reward the value delivered, not the time put in! I guess that's an alien concept in this toxic company

@gd I only joined 2 year's ago at the 4th quartile of the pay range and I am doing quite well, thank you. I am not one of those stuck here for 15 year's, still in the 2 and 3rd quadrant desperately hoping for a promotion that's not going to come. I switch every 2-3 years, that's my promotion. I am not loyal to any company, certainly not to Optum but do the best I can I 8hours a day and expect professional coworkers which seems like it's too much to ask in this company based on some of the comments here. Most toxic company I have had the pleasure of working in for sure.

@dd lol I respect their work life balance. I don't work beyond 8 hours except some true emergency and I make sure to her comp off the following Friday. There is a difference between drawing a line and gross incompetence and laziness. Anyway like others said not my problem, especially because I am leaving soon, of I knew that I would not have even made the original post. Cheers

@c1 I wish but it's affecting our delivery. We have already slipped the target date and my name is on the project. Otherwise I am not the one to care, believe me. I am not their manager, but my manager is and he is clueless about day to day activities and expecting me to take full ownership. I am quitting soon anyway to a non healthcare domain IT role with a much better pay, just waiting for background check etc to be done and get my start date so I guess they'll be someone else problem. Until then I'll do the best I can to keep the project afloat.
BTW , I don't know why so many down votes on my OP, it's ridiculous. This is a real concern, not some madeup gossip. Good luck to everyone, we all deserve better than OI.

Don't do their jobs, that is your time to do you job
They should be going to the hiring manager either questions

You do realize they are hiring more women because corporate pays them less, right? We can discuss merits, but a female new hire next to a male new hire is always cheaper. The wage gap always perpetuates itself.

Stick to your lane and don't worry about things beyond your pay grade. Performance management is someone's job but it's not yours.
