Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Anyone else tire of “leaning in”?

I hate that phrase. I am so tired of it. Anymore leaning in and I’ll fall over. Fall over I guess really means burned out.
Ever notice how meetings begin with gratitude and then ask us to do more? Like it’s up to each one of us to fix the culture that rotted from the head prior to Hemsley’s return. There comes a point where the boat can’t right itself and I’m not talking about financially— they’ll fix that. It’s the purpose, drive and passion for your profession they can’t restore because they broke it and don’t even know it— or at least refuse to take ownership of that fact. Still, we lean in, we are met with gratitude, take more surveys and in the end it’s just the same sad thing over and over. Take your PTO, turn off your phone, hug you wife, husband, kid or neighbor. That’s my advice

Yeah. I'll lean in alright. To the same extent that Optum senior "leadership" leans in to a positive employee experience.

In other words, I'm leaning back so hard that I'm at risk of tipping over my chair.

@OP My boss uses his camera 100% of the time. In my 1:1s he sits there while I talk and try to get either help, info or guidance, and he sits there ON HIS PHONE not looking or listening to me. It's infuriating and then he gives me the "lean in" sermon. It's the literal hight of disrespect and lack of gratitude. I've thought of dropping the call and rebooting and walking away when he dies it.

We all have to lean in since they RIFed half of our team while adding more work. We had 1-2% raises, reduced 401K match, more work, and high inflation. We are losing by staying at Optum.

@OP it's funny you mention this. My boss uses that phrase constantly. It's a huge irritant to hear. I give my all every single day, yet my meetings with my SR Dir leave me feeling like I'm missing the point entirely. He's a cliche filled slave driver who thinks leadership is pushing for more and more and faster and faster. What he doesn't get is, I'm onto his nonsense and will do what I can, and when the day is done, drop the mouse and get on with my life. I won't be shamed into feeling like I'm not doing enough. If he gives me a 3 ... Whatever. I can sleep at night knowing I'm paying attention to the most important things in me life, family and friends and not this salt mine slave pit we call a company.
