CVS's Rank - WSJ - The 2026 Best Companies for the Future

The Wall Street Journal evaluates how leading US corps stack up in 6 areas: AI readiness, innovation, talent readiness, financial fitness, resilience and agility.

CVS Health ranks #295 overall with an Overall Score of 47.9, placing it 26th out of 44 Health Care Equipment & Services companies. The positive signal is AI Rank #66, which is fairly strong, and Resilience Rank #88, which is also credible. Those two factors show the company is not a simple laggard.

The issue is that the rest of the profile is weak. CVS ranks #444 in Talent Readiness, #425 in Agility, and #348 in Financial Fitness. Strategically, the data reads CVS as a healthcare scale player with some AI and resilience advantages, but significant organizational and financial drag. The company has assets, but the ranking does not yet see a coherent future-ready operating model.

I’m surprised we rank that high in AI. Most of the leaders here might be able to spell AI but that’s about it.

Not surprised that CVS ranks low in talent readiness and agility. Turnover is high, and CVS is a very reactive company not proactive. They could do something about these issues but it’s obvious they don’t care. As long as the billions keep rolling in, nothing else matters.
