Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Elevance's Rank - WSJ - The 2026 Best Companies for the Future

The Wall Street Journal evaluates how leading US corps stack up in 6 areas: AI readiness, innovation, talent readiness, financial fitness, resilience and agility.

Elevance Health ranks #151 overall with an Overall Score of 54.4, placing it 12th out of 44 companies in Health Care Equipment & Services. Its best factor is Financial Fitness Rank #95, with Agility #136 and Resilience #209 in the middle of the distribution. This gives Elevance a respectable but not dominant profile within healthcare.

The weaker point is technology positioning. Elevance has AI Rank #231, Innovation Rank #207, and Talent Readiness #316, so the table does not read the company as a leading AI or talent platform despite its scale. Strategically, the data suggests a large, financially credible healthcare franchise, but one that is not yet separating itself on digital transformation, workforce readiness, or innovation velocity.

This company has some talented staff, but most are not encouraged to speak up, or they speak up and are ignored or told to stay silent. This stifles growth and improvement. All they seem to want is 'yes' people and say 'everything is fine' no matter what's going on. If they speak up, the management above them might actually have to do some work and they definitely don't want that to happen.

When you continually layoff people with all the institutional knowledge needed to advise on migrating data and processes to new technology then what do you expect would happen? Leadership here is do short sided. They would rather have yes people than keep people around to help with successful data and processes transformation. Duh.

EH has lost a fair amount of AI talent the last few years. The cloud platforms need to be entirely rebuilt from scratch. They really don't know what they are doing.
