Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Atlanta, is Buford Highway a safe place to live?

I have heard of a lot of crime in the Buckhead Lenox area near the office.

I would not recommend Buford Highway to live. Lots of other better options. Overall Atlanta is a very nice city along with its Suburbs.

Wow, I use to stay Buckhead years ago when I went to Atlanta office and that time it was nice and pretty safe as would go to the mall after work etc. So sorry to hear it has gone down hill as it was a nice place 25 years ago.

@at It is not that bad outside certain areas. Crime is everywhere in every big city. Atlanta is no worse than others except the known areas . . . Buford Hwy is one of them, though not typically for mu---rs, more for property crimes.

It's now typical for people who live in places like Alpharetta to get shot while getting gas in Atlanta. Don't let anyone fool you, there is NOTHING redeeming about Atlanta. The place is a complete cesspool . I lock myself inside and keep to myself. Don't turn on WSB-TV unless you want to be up to date with apartment shootings and other crime stories of the overnight.

There is very little safe inside the perimeter anymore. The old money neighborhoods west of Buckhead and a handful of wealthy areas around Decatur are okay, but their safety is dependent on heavy police patrols. Your best bet is to stay well north. Marietta, Alpharetta, Kennesaw etc. Only go into town when you have to - that is the Atlanta way.

Buford Highway is not that safe inside the perimeter, and remains unsafe until you get well outside the perimeter. The good thing about the Lenox campus is that MARTA does not stop at the campus, and AT&T does pay to have cops onsite for a good portion of the day. As well, the Lenox campus is kind of in a cocoon of expensive residential areas that protect it from the Buford Highway area. Also, that area of Buford Hwy is predominantly Hispanic, so make your own opinions off that information.

Buford is solid. Buford highway is decent in some areas, but sketchy in others.

Buford Highway is a very long road that spans across several cities in metro Atlanta. So, safety and crime depends on the specific area of Buford Highway. As for the area around the office, Buckhead is the financial district of Atlanta, and the most expensive part of the city of Atlanta. The only real crime in that area is at Lenox Mall with theft. I've never had an issue being at the office. Plus, the office is tucked away and surrounded by condo/apartment complexes and subdivisions. The office is located within a park that has a nice walking path that I walk during my lunch break. I've never had a safety issue. I've lived in Atlanta for 20 years.

They're going to close the Lenox office, and Alpharetta probably isn't far behind
