Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

Proprietary don’t do that

https://presentofcoding.substack.com/p/please-switch-to-python

Stata can’t. SAS can’t. SPSS can’t. MATLAB’s answer is “call Python from MATLAB.”

even where these tools have some capability, it requires calling Python, or expensive licenses, or both.

I’ve rarely met anyone who learned Python or R after switching from Stata or SAS and said, “I wish I were still working in those.”

Probably the only way out of this mess is to make FOSS illegal or legally cripple its usage within the country and, if possible, around the globe. There are movements afoot…

This article may as well have been written 10 years ago. The writing was on the wall and the moat was breached a long time ago. The people with foresight petitioned to leverage these open source tools rather than try to fight against them. Pride, stupidity, and aimlessness toppled SAS a long time ago. People working in the field do not want to work with SAS (or any of these other archaic tools), and that’s agnostic of the fact that SAS demands they pay a very large sum to use their inferior product(s).

So confused. What does this have to do with the Art Department?

Interesting article. I don’t view the outlawing of FOSS as probable or even possible.
