Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Attracting talent...

Hmm, what kind of message this sends - a major LR while the company is highly profitable, with compensation that is only marginally above average.

Cisco markets to people who do not make purchasing decisions anyway.

Employees affected by this are unlikely to recommend Cisco solutions the next time they are in a position to influence buying decisions.

@d1 instead of skills, what we need is more performative hiring, more buzzwords, and more people pretending optics are the same thing as actual ability. Let’s get all the quotas filled, so we all can enjoy and nobody works.

depends on how you define 'talent'. the term is on a spectrum that goes from your local state college to top eng schools. if you imagine that spectrum our needle almost always stops somewhere around to spot where IIT and some regional indian schools are placed. the same goes to previous work experience.

Talented or not, they will be able to fill any vacancies with their friends/family, they intentionally LR people to create vacancies to hire them.

If you are long enough in one BU, you would have noticed what i mean.

They will have no problem filling any vacancies they have. The job market is full of qualified candidates who need jobs. After you have been unemployed for a while any job is better than no job.

what makes you think Cisco is able to attract any level of talent in the first place? this LR changes nothing on that front.
