Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Shaking head

Why would we go on a news show and cry vs showing some new hot product that will revolutionize the market?
Oh crud, that right, we don’t have hot new product or commercials. Thanks product and marketing….

@aa 100% this.

“The core problem with Nike is that majority of the people at leadership level (Sr Director, VPs & above) have always put their interest on top of Nike's interest.”

Nike is just trying way too hard to create a better image. I appreciate EH's passion for Nike but shedding tears in All Hands and public interviews won't save him or Nike. Doing it again and again may come across as a sign of weakness.
The core problem with Nike is that majority of the people at leadership level (Sr Director, VPs & above) have always put their interest on top of Nike's interest. This layoff is a great example of that. VP & SR Dir level is more bloated then what it was earlier.

These days I honestly wonder: “What does Nike’s marketing team actually do? And do we really need hundreds or thousands of people to do whatever invisible & ineffective thing it is they’re doing?”

Nike just did a housecleaning in Tech. Put Marketing next on the list. We don’t need thousands of people to help us sell fewer products.

Not even joking. This company is still seriously bloated with thousands of people whose absence wouldn’t be noticed very long if their positions were eliminated tomorrow. That might make some people mad to hear. At the same time I doubt too many people would with a straight face attempt to deny it.
