Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle stock does down due to OpenAi miss targets.

The Missed Targets Report
A report (notably from the Wall Street Journal) revealed that OpenAI failed to meet several key internal goals:

User Growth: ChatGPT failed to reach its goal of 1 billion weekly active users by the end of 2025.

Revenue: The company missed multiple monthly revenue targets in early 2026.

Competition: Competitors like Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude are reportedly eating into OpenAI’s market share, particularly in the high-value coding and enterprise sectors.

I am not saying that this isn't true however OpenAI is a privately owned company so it doesn't report this information publicly. Not meeting internal goals doesn't mean it wasn't profitable. Internal goals are often unreasonable. Have you ever heard the term "stretch goals"?

The AI sector and the stock market in general are extremely overbought right now. Like bubble territory overbought. This is part of the reason why prices fluctuate so fast and by large amounts on any news because a lot of investors realize where the markets are in their risk evaluations.

The markets will correct and the potential for a huge correction certainly exist. The issues in the middle east will continue to weigh on the global economy. It will likely accelerate the longer it goes on.

In the long run AI is just getting started. Compare it to the Internet or cell phones which were both novelties when they first came out and are now essential to most people's lives. AI is much further along than either of those 2 technologies at the same point in their lifecycle and it is developing at a much faster rate.
