Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What's the point of hard work?

I'm so tired and I have nothing to show for it. I work 12 hours every day and that's from home. I haven't gone to the office yet but if they truly make it mandatory, I can add two extra hours to my workday. What kind of life is that? I haven't received a decent pay raise or a bonus in God knows how long, all I get is more work. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother.

Sounds like you're working harder not smarter. Janitors can work 12 hours a day, but at the end of the day they're still janitors

Agreed, put in that much time consistently during covid. My computer never turned off. Never ever again

Judging by your weird stilted caveman grammar, you don't seem to have exactly mastered technology yourself there, Qtaгd. People in glass double-wides shouldn't throw stones.

12 hours, you're 100% full of sh-t. Most people aren't even putting in a 3rd of the day. Most the charity DEI hires in recent years put in 30min a day at best hosting a meeting, and still manage to f things up setting up a simple meeting.

If you are working more than 8 hours means either you are not capable or you are downgrading your self. So, first correct that.

I feel you. It’s the frog in the pot problem. You start out doing a good job in a regular 8 hour day. Your boss sees you are less trouble than the slackers or ill-skilled on the team. So you get a few “extra” tasks you l, at first, get a boost from. You’ve been recognized! Your boss trusts you! You have an opportunity to show off even more of your good work.

Then you are taken for granted and, if you pull back on what’s now a 12 hour day’s worth of work YOU become the problem. Your work USED TO be so good. You were ONCE so dependable. Now you’re just like the people whose work you were given back when this cycle started. If you have a good boss - odds are against you - they’ll take some accountability for the burnout your in and rebalance responsibilities. Chances are better your boss will now start riding you for your drop in performance.

Start showing up to your 1:1s with a list of tasks and prioritize them by what can get done in an 8 hour day. Get your boss to agree to them or reprioritize them and reassign what can’t be done in a normal workweek.

Bring it out in every 1:1 and send it with YOUR notes after the meeting. Start looking for another job if you’re able. It sucks and it’s initially more work but you can’t work those hours sustainably and keep your sanity.

Good luck!

It's your choice to work 12 hour days. Grow some ba--s, set some boundaries, learn to say NO!! Find a new job?!?

Hard work will never pay off at Wells. Cut your shackles off and liberate yourself. You work for the man and he is up in Hudson Yards living the good life on your back. He doesn't care one bit about you.
