Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

So few good managers left here

The good ones are either laid off or leaving. Not that I blame them, considering what Schwab turned into in recent years.

We all know the priority at the top is cost cutting and shareholder value.

The problem is the people making those calls don’t see themselves as part of the cost, even though they’re making significantly more than most of the people they’re judging. They clearly don’t think they’re the issue. They genuinely believe they’re more valuable and don’t even consider that they might be overpaid, so they look downward for cost cutting, often targeting people they don’t like or who aren’t part of their circle.

So we’re stuck with weak, self-serving, overpaid MDs who are going to take care of themselves. They’re not going anywhere. The only time they do is when they’re pushed to retire

My micro-manager is enjoying being remote and is now asking me to check on a contractor if he is at his desk four days a week. She went on vacation during our PI planning and was dropping in and out of meetings. She keeps moving my 1:1s every week its a different time and is always 5-10 minutes late to the 1:1s. All these 90s useless managers must be sent home. The director she reports to is another clown just promotes Indians under him. We really need to axe these PLs and Directors and send them home they have zero problem solving and people skills.

Yeah my manager was awesome but quit on bonus day - no other job lined up just hated it here.
In my group we have had a bunch of promotions recently because of scope changes, and all of the ones to people leader or director were the su-k-ups who steal others work. I tried for the manager opening and they have HR people who are gatekeeping that level and making sure you tow the Schwab line. They are sure they can get someone better from outside…

I agree, we just found out our manager in Account Solutions will be permanently leaving us, while she’s staying with the company, it’s sad to hear she won’t come back. Now we will be with leaders whom aren’t as good, don’t care as much for us, and they said they will split us up between leaders now our team won’t even be together. I might start to look for a new company as my manager was the only reason I’ve stuck around.

Absolutely right. Just a handful of them left. I lost hope but now I have a tiny ray of hope after moving to my new manager. Unfortunately, most of the managers here are like my old one, micro managing, insulting, talking down on teams and throwing us under the bus when they are supposed to defend and stand for us.
