Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Work life balance?

How are we handling work life balance with the new in office requirement? My child is starting kindergarten next year and I’m not sure how to handle the 8 hour in office rule. I previously planned to just pick him up then work from home for a few hours. I have child care, but I’m responsible for the pick up and drop off. The school schedule does not align with work at all. My partner and I already work opposite shifts for daycare drop off and pick up. But the school schedule is much harder to accommodate. Honestly, don’t tell me to hire chauffeur. How do people with kids do it?
I know this isn’t layoff related but I’m not sure who to ask,

I'll choose my kids over work any day. I have not and will not spend 8 hours in the office, it doesn’t make sense. I'm logged on for over 8 hours a day and get my work done, but my butt won't sit in an office for 8 hours.

Wells Fargo hates anything that takes your time away from Wells Fargo. They hate kids. Many managers actively discourage FMLA leave. Didnt used to be this way. Wells wants to have the "Wall Street" investment bank sweatshop mentality without the Wall Street pay. Good luck with that.

Find a new employer.

@bg before 2020, signed full-time telecommute arrangements were a thing for many WF workers, and even in office, no one really thought twice about leaving early and finishing work from home if they occasionally needed to. Get off your high horse.

To OP - unfortunately i think the choice is pretty stark, you either shell out for an after school childcare program, or you find a different employer that understands workers need flexibility sometimes to accommodate their real lives. Wells Fargo has made it clear that flexibility is no longer in their vocabulary, and that's not likely to change as long as Charlie Scharf is in charge.

@b7

What changed was the emergence of abrasive bootlickers like you, fighting the battle for your executive overlords.

We didn't have that before. Now we do.

Lucky us.

Do what everyone did pre-2020 (before hybrid was allowed) and arrange for childcare. The company is not paying you to babysit.

check if there are any before/after school programs at your kids school. While it costs money at my kids school I was able to drop them off as early as 730a and pick them up no later than 6p.

If I could figure it out as a single parent, so can you. For decades parents have managed to figure out how to do life in the construct we live in.

We have been working at the office and balanced child care and commuting. What has changed?
