Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Explore no longer in SF - Under the cloak of the holiday period

Nicely done. VMware cancels VMExplore and certainly picked the right day and week to announce it many will completely miss it. For those that think nothing will change… another warning shot fired.

Enjoy Vegas, it will be the last time this event takes place.

BTW - San Fran looks like utopia compared to NYC

Oh god, not another Vegas event. SF has its problems, but many would prefer it over Vegas.

Explore (always VMWorld) in the US was a mess. A LOT of money was dumped into it. Did we really need three-story signs on buildings a block away? There were some very notable business units missing. Some product lines had a few kiosks in the booth, but all of their presentations were rejected internally.

The internal management was a mess. No call for papers --- marketing would decide what would be presented. Then there was a pseudo-call for papers, but not announced and marketing ran it. None of which was advertised; it was passed down only in leadership meetings. There was a distinct separation between what attendees wanted to learn, what C-levels wanted to hype, and what Product Marketing wanted to show off.

Considering the European Explore was more popular.
Good choice!
Now make Europe the main event.

I’m actually thrilled that it’s going back to Vegas and will try to attend next year vs actively trying to get out of going whenever it’s in San Fran. I hope it’s at the Venetian!

I am not from the US but went to SFO first time in 2001 or so - I only visited friends in Sausalito and I loved it.

Only this year I went for a work event (my company is head quartered in SFO (between East Cut and Soma) and OMG is this place a dump. I was shocked.

I have never seen so much crime / dr-gs and whatnot during the day. In fact, I even thought the area stinks .. I mean literally stinks.

So yea - I stay away from SFO now - really trying to avoid it. Certainly not worth the 13hr flight (I did enjoy the Alcatraz visit though)

Vegas was temp because of Moscone renovations and SF too expensive and expenses are out of control. More than likely this will go radio silent and then get lost in BC news in Q1-2 and the close. No one will remember Explore anyway....

"As I understand it they rotate between SF and Vegas every 4 yrs I think."

Not the case. It was only in Vegas temporarily during the years that Moscone was being renovated. Good riddance - SF is a dump now, but they still want $600 for a hotel night so no one wants to attend there.

SF has become a third world hellscape. It's no wonder that VMware is failing too. It's all related.

Nobody wants to go to San Francisco. It’s moving to a place where people actually might show up.
