Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Is fully remote work putting us at risk?

I hate even the idea of RTO after I've had a prolonged taste of WFH. I have made a few appearances at the office since hybrid was instituted but I stopped when I saw I was one of the rare to even bother. I do sometimes worry if doing my job fully remotely puts me in danger of it being outsourced to somebody cheaper in a third-world country. What are the chances of that happening?

Yes, most people will go back, and their work will be garbage due to morale tanking. The execs can get RTO or high quality / perf, not both. These NYC clowns won't be in charge forever and we can outlast the ba----ds. Viva la Resistance.

Starting in January, managers have been told the badge reports will be reviewed weekly. Those not in office 3 days a week will at minimum have performance review dinged to maximum of being terminated for being "insubordinate". They've also been "encouraged" (wink wink) to backfill in India "whenever possible". So, very real possibility they'll let a bunch go to just hire outside of US. And, those with medical accommodations to WFH will have them reviewed. If you don't live in a "location strategy" city, is grounds for layoff. If you do, there's whispers you have to get the accommodation redone with HR and your management (can we say HIPPA?). They will walk right up to what is legal (accommodations, outsourcing, etc).

I think we will see many merely waiting to get their 401k payment on 12/31 & see if get a bonus then will bounce first chance they get.

If we're being honest, is sad.

At risk of being let go? Possibly. At risk of being stuck in a role or level? Absolutely. There's more than one kind of discrimination going on in this bank.

No, but outsourcing jobs to 3rd world shithole countries who now have access to US customers sensitive data is risky.

No. Not investing in enough technology and systems put us at risk. And leadership won’t ramp up fast enough on these things now which is why we’re still at risk.

Unless you are on the operating committee (because they look after themselves), are in a position that directly interacts with regulators in person, are in a position that directly interacts with customers in person and can't be replaced by an app or ATM machine, your job can be outsourced.

If the work you do can be outsourced, why does it matter where you are currently sitting

Just wait until every leader plugs RTO stats as part of performance. Attendance will rise. My group had that change a few months ago, we went from probably 20% full on average to 60% (except Fridays) basically overnight.

I know there is a huge FRTO group here, and I get it. But the reality is 90% of you will go in when your money is on the line, just like we did. Downvote away, but it’s reality.

No it’s not because outsourcing and remote work has been a part of corporate for ages even before Covid. Working from home or in office will not change that.

Automation is what you should be worried about.

No. They were already looking to outsource as many jobs as possible to third world countries before Covid so executives could line their own pockets. Nothing has changed.
