Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Thought for the day

This will come as a surprise to Chevron management; respect is earned and not deserved due to title or legacy. It has been a long time since I worked with a Chevron manager who actually earned respect. Management drafts way too many entitled individuals into their ranks who have little to no regard for the workforce, do not have a reasonable understanding of the workflows they are responsible for nor a comprehension of the industry as a whole. Sad to see the company that I have worked for over twenty years start to cave in on itself due to poor leadership and decision making. Management ranks are full of nepo-babies, one hit wonders, and TikTok influencers without a clue. Experience, skills, and hard work are no longer valued here.

Our new manager blatantly violates HIPAA and ADA laws because he thinks as long as everyone is chained to their desks then he is doing a great job. People are reluctant to go to the bathroom and have stopped eating lunch if he is around because everyone is tired of being asked where they were and lectured. If people do eat then it is done quickly and secretively, hunched over their keyboards. Morale has plummeted to new depths. Headhunters and new manager's inexperience is publicly discussed because we are all being repeatedly told that any absence or remote work incidence, medical or otherwise, paperwork or not, will be recorded as an attendance issue and considered cause for termination. Our group is high performing and this has pushed everyone to the edge.

I don't think anyone could name 5 Chevron managers who are respected outside the company for their accomplishments. Can you think of any Chevron managers over the last 2 decades who have been head-hunted by other companies?

Do you always post corny quips that you heard in old movies, OP? This post is troll bait. No current employee would honestly post something this AI generated and fake.

My manager in IT has no tertiary degree, no education in IT, has never built anything, and yet is now a PM managing IT teams across multiple countries.

Make it make sense.

This looks like something written by a child who just learned how to use ChatGPT. It's hard to believe that you contributed or learned anything significant in 20 years if that is even true.

My manager is a 'bullsh-t artist' formerly known as a technical practitioner - many moons ago, in an all too brief of a stint. Has no idea about concepts and workflows. Seriously, if you left the field so long ago that your only lens is short-term profit, upward management and most certainly a long term loss, at least use your personal device and a proper LLM—anything except Copilot will do—to make an informed call. But none of us have the guts to challenge idiocy because being anything but a yes person to an illustrious leader will eventually cost a job.
