About 7 years ago my wife’s company (Fortune 500, top 50) sold their real estate and terminated their commercial lease contracts and went 100% work from home, and since, they now get more production and lower turnover than they did with offices. It also opened the door for the company to hire the best talent available because they aren’t limited by geography.
If Wells Fargo was really serious about improving the balance sheet and getting more productivity, they would do more about finding ways to make WFH work for some parts of the business. Financially, it makes complete sense. Those of us who have worked at home for the past 2+ years have made it work and I can 100% attest I am much more productive not being in the office. I stay totally focused with zero distractions and usually end up working more than my 8hrs, willingly.
It is what it is, but I DO know that now we are officially RTO in 23, I can assure leadership that they will not get the same level of effort from me. I have a 30 mile commute each way, and when it’s quitting time, I’m out. Working early? Not a chance. I will be doing my job as I agreed upon, but I’m not contributing one ounce more than required. New career options are now a consideration, when they weren’t before.
