I know they are meaningless titles but they are giving it to new hires as part of their hiring.
I remember year ago they just said they would address it in the future but never saw anything

I'd like an officer title. For the company it's essentially a free recognition. There's really no downside to it. Some will care, some won't, but since there's no significant cost to the company they should do it.
Titles are worth lint and two pennies at Wells Fargo.

Yup, kind of sucks when half the managers in my dept have an officer title and half of us don’t, despite being at the same level
My main pain point about not having one is that when we all inevitably leave this ship, they’ll probably have a leg up on their next gig

AVP/VP/SVP/EVP are "officer titles". They have nothing to do with pay level or any other compensation/benefits, signing authority, etc etc. - those are determined by the job family level.
For each level in a job family, there is a defined officer title that the level is "eligible" for. The manager has to submit paperwork to grant the officer title separately. New hires don't receive them automatically - the manager has to process it separately after the person is on board.
they are a relic of the past, but they are still around and people still get bent out of shape about them even though they are empty titles.
And they are "grandfathered" - so the mistakes of the past are perpetuated. example - "Director" positions are only eligible for SVP officer titles, but there are a lot of Directors floating around with EVP titles from some past quirk/inconsistency in how these officer titles were granted. Guess which title they use on the linkedin profile???
Titles are meaningless. I got no extra benefit from being "awarded" a title.
One of my coworkers just got a VP title after a bunch of the team left. They didn’t get any more money and are not pleased with their new title and more work situation
interesting that the folks who say titles mean nothing, don’t have a title. hmmmm
I just laugh when I see someone put 'VP' in their email signatures.
Look! I've achieved some exclusive title reserved for only a select few 10,000 people! Means nothing except for maybe the sales guy who is trying to impress a client. For the back office folks, it just makes you look like a fool as it means nothing.

Seems to be a hangover from JPM where they call folks Directors, Executive Directors and Managing Directors.
Weird we have a lot of new hires coming from chase with svp title
SVP is gone, went away a year or so ago. They are giving out “Director” now … got mine a year ago. Kind of meaningless really, but nice to have the wife call me Heir Director LOL
Yes. Also they are looking to change those in 2023 just like they did with job titles
