Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Grade 26 and below - the frustration

I work in optum insight. I was moved to new team due to a restructure last year.
3 other people on the team have a job title that is 1 above, so they are eligible for bonus and I am not, along with 2 others.
This means we all work very similar roles, with now more pressure due to layoffs, and I get a 1.5% raise and no RRP due to my level, while they get 5k or more bonuses plus possible merit and a bigger base salary.

Why would I ever work hard when 3 other people are getting bonuses while me and others are not? For almost identical work. It would be different if they did a different job, but with the restructuring, our jobs are basically the same now with the same goals and metrics.
I am at the point of being extremely bitter.
Someone make this make sense at all.

Grade 26 here. Trained 3 new staff since 11/2025 and STILL kicked butt w/my metrics. Boss told me I'd be training someone else. I told her....no I'm not while I was thinking not with this cr-ppy raise and no bonus and a 5 on my end of year review. She backed off. I feel a great relief being here knowing I really don't have to work hard anymore. I was also a SME for my team. Not anymore. I don't even look at the chat anymore. When staff ping me directly I ignore them. Done.

I am in a similar scenario. Last year I was moved to a new team during layoffs/restructuring and the people on my new team are a pay grade higher than me. I went to HR over it and ultimately no one cares and the mentality is I need to consider myself lucky that I was not part of the layoffs.

@as Halfway through your comment, my mind automatically started reading it in Peter Gibbons' voice from Office Space. I agree with you entirely.

@as Speaking as a 27 on a similar team, the bonus is pathetic. You can bust your tail and still get only a 1% raise and a tiny bonus. Optum is sc--wing all of us over, just using different tactics. We will never be fairly compensated at this company.

@as there is none. Your manager and their boss can’t do anything about it either. The company has made a strategic decision to make life for US employees miserable. There is no way it isn’t by design to make people quit.

@as Agreed. Makes you not want to work very hard at all.

I’m a 26 and made the same point to my manager during my review last week. I said, I realize it wasn’t your decision to take away my bonus, but what message does this send to me?

Other members of my cross-functional team are 27’s and/or above. We work on the same projects. However, they all get a bonus for their effort while I don’t. All that says to me is my contributions are less valued!!

So Steve, what’s my motivation going forward other than doing just enough to not get laid off.

Try to get a 27 in some other dept. You are still at a grade level where there is opportunities. Thats really the only option.

It will never be fair unfortunately. Reorgs and acquisitions always have people coming in at different levels doing the same work and being paid more. I was in the same situation before I was RIFed in January. No opportunity for advancement or raises. I had been looking for a new job for a few years; the layoff was a blessing in disguise I think.

Don't internalize your bitterness. It's not healthy. Start looking for new opportunities and be appreciated someplace new.

Good luck!
