I asked my manager to rank me NSI and she did it. I was retirement eligible at the time and was going to retire anyway. I saved someone else from being ranked NSI and got me 3 months paid leave. Win/win.
I have seen this done. Coworker went to HR and said he wanted PIP.
They put him on it. No questions asked and he was done.
Easy. Say what people say in private but are afraid to say in meetings. Point out the waste. Point out the stupidity. Point out the bad behaviors. Just speak truth and watch your ranking tank. Another option is to just be unlucky in your role and assignment. Ask for a technical role. Or be over 45 years old!
