Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Just doing the bare minimum

I’ve found that working hard here absolutely doesn’t pay off anymore.

Bonus targets always seem to be cut, promotions are almost impossible to come by, and raises don’t even keep up with the rate of inflation. I was always a high performer and got nothing in return, except a few measly dollars here and there. Not even worth it. Stopped trying and somehow ended up with a huge bonus last year. Now I just coast knowing trying makes no difference. I see so many of the wrong people promoted and hard workers laid off. It just makes no sense. Just doing the bare minimum now since that’s all I get in return.

It's real hard for me to not put out 110% in everything I do. It's just something that's burned into my nature. I have to keep reminding myself that WF doesn't give a 5hit about me. Thankfully my manager makes it easy, and I've been training myself to put out less and to coast more. I'm now putting 110% effort into THAT.

Been coasting since RTO. If Charlie wants to steal hours of my time, money and sleep for commuting, then I have no more f—-s to give for this job. Been here forever though, so I’ll keep coasting until severance comes. If not, I can easily coast until retirement.

As the company works on its diversity quotas, this is going to become a thing much more often.
I stopped busting a couple years ago once I saw the next generation of workers coming in. Why should I work hard when we hire incompetent people?

I've worked for Well for almost 2 decades and not once have I been in a position that received a bonus. Even though I heard some of my managers got year end bonus for My performance. Now the 401k settlement is being deposited into my account which they can tamper with again instead of just giving me a check.... I'm doing the bare minimum too F*ck this company!

@djo+1kgrQxq0 This was happening to me on my team last year - 2021. I got the biggest bonus of my career and no let up on doing, conservatively, the work of 3 people. I left in July.

I figured there’s only one way to go from biggest bonus ever and the work was the same to increasing. When I left 40% of what I was doing just stopped. Team refused to take on more and didn’t have knowledge/skill to do it. The incompetent manager I left cried to his manager that he had no idea what I was doing - somehow I was supposed to train him even though he didn’t ask and only contacted me to give me more work.

Anywho, they hired 4 contractors to do a fraction of what I did and are constantly on the “bad list” for tech deliverables. Someone from the team reaches out every couple of weeks asking for resume help or to provide a reference. People are done working for id--t managers.

Yeah it definitely does not. He or she who sucks the most di-k gets ahead. Buy some knee pads and learn to suck di-k, it will get you promoted faster.

Sometimes it's more than just how hard you work. Also, sometimes it takes multiple years of hard work to bear fruit. Unfortunately, some are just luckier than others. Or maybe they're doing something that you don't see.

Further, a lot of this is also predicated on how your group, department or company is doing. Maybe you're just the tallest mid-et.

Worked there a few years ago… I hear ya. The harder I tried the worse I was treated and finally got rewarded when I quit working so hard, just a few months before I quit for real. That place is the definition of ‘too big to fail,’ because Jesus knows they’re trying!

Ditto. Ditto. Ditto. It’s super frustrating. The survey results on our team were alarming, and we have had incredibly high attrition due to RTO, but I doubt that will make any difference in the desire to keep the rest of us around by rewarding high performers. There is no incentive at all, so I intend to just ride it out until retirement or layoff.

Low performers don’t just get away with it here, they are rewarded with lower expectations. They are sidelined and ignored, and their work dumped on the high performers. Which simply means low performers get paid for slacking off, while high performers are punished for coming through.
Differences in raises and bonuses are, of course, negligible.

I have to be honest, there are definitely times when I would choose to do the bare minimum, and I wish I could. Except I don't control or affect the workflow, so I have to do what I'm assigned. It's funny to see that quality of work often doesn't matter and people who do low-quality work get away with it. Even knowing that, I'm still afraid that anything I didn't catch or fix or challenge enough will come back to bite me here. Until I get another job somewhere else. LOL.
