Find another gear!

I've attended a few Leadership update calls since Dan announced results and I've heard the phrase 'find another gear' or similar used a few times now.

Do any of you have another gear to go upto? I don't know about y'all but since VSP & the last round of RIFs, I've been in top gear constantly covering my work and that of several others, and have nothing more left to give, I'm burnt out.

I guess they expect me to give up even more of my own personal time to help Dan get his payout. It ain't happening!

In global, my workload has doubled and the work is piling up. Not understanding that there are 3 layers of directors that don't do the work. They are next for consolidation with frontier this fall.

I’ve been in neutral all along just cruising…and I’m still here.

This has striking similarities with the following movie....

Madagascar - 2005 (movie)

Setting: The penguins stand on a pristine beach, watching the damaged lifeboat—with Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman aboard—putter away from the shore.

Private: (Waving sadly) Bye-bye, Mr. Alex...

Kowalski: (Leaning toward Skipper, lowering his voice) Sir. A tactical observation. The vessel’s fuel tank was breached during our escape. It’s currently registering empty. Probability of reaching the mainland: zero.

Skipper: (Doesn’t take his eyes off the departing boat, keeps a rigid, cheerful smile on his face)

Kowalski: Should we… inform them of the critical fuel shortage?

Skipper: (Without moving his smile) Negative, Kowalski. That’s a need-to-know basis, and they don’t need to know.

Kowalski: But, sir, they’ll be adrift...

Skipper: It’s a controlled adrift. A strategic repositioning. Now, look sharp and sell it. Big waves. Bigger smiles.

Skipper begins waving with exaggerated, mechanical enthusiasm.

Kowalski: (Offers a stiff, slightly pained wave) Wave and smile. Roger that.

Skipper: That’s the spirit. Operation "Beach Vacation" is officially a go. They’ll thank us later. Probably.

Imagine going 90 miles per hour in fourth and you accidentally shift down to second

That's what finding another gear means when you are already stretched thin and cut a third of your team

Keep enabling the problem by covering for the extra lost people and nothing will change.

That’s an old Lowell McAdam phrase. It’s a non descriptive way of telling us to work harder. It’s about as useful as “set the foundation” or “delight customers”

Did the most projects in 2025 than ever before and for what, a RIF. F em all. It really doesn't matter how much you do. When you realize that you will be in a better place.

The answer to any demand from management is not an unqualified Yes or No. The correct answer is "With these resources, and this timeline, here's what I can deliver..." And make it very clear that anything beyond that is fantasy.

Yeah, I'll do that right away. Right after Dan and crew find another gear on employee compensation, benefits, and our overall experience.

Till then, they are lucky that I'm providing any output at all.

Find another gear tells me there’s no grand plan and it’s up each employee to figure it out. Which is exactly what got us where we are today , working hard and getting nowhere, like rowing in circles with no direction.

At this point, there’s no choice but to refuse any extra work and tell those id--t leaders to prioritize work. I’ve found that pushing back puts the pressure on them.
