Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why do we hire clueless contractors ?

We preach less cycle time yet know the overseas contractors waste productivity with errors. Why?
We preach improve customer satisfaction but turn a blind eye to clueless lying and noise from non employees. Why ?

There are not a lot of off-shore contractors these days as most are off-shore T employees at off-shore T-sites as no longer IBM, Tech M as was in the past. They work until approx 12:00PM EST some may work a few hours longer. It makes it tough to get things done.

want to stop hiring of the clueless... smash IT. Don't help it....don't advise it....even start using outside cloud software to replace it. The will be the beginning of something much bigger. Only a spreadsheet on your computer is all is needed for the big telco anyways.

if anyone remembers the ITO days when sitting in outage calls for hours with off-shore SAs who had no clue what to do. things are not getting any better.

Cheaper and T doesn’t have to pay them benefits.

@d3 Ever wonder why we “press 1 for English” on a call to just shake your head when we are fighting to wonder what they are saying…?. Our customers say the same thing on the verbatim!

We hire clueless contractors because this company isn’t attractive to real talent. 5x8 RTO solidified this as a zombie company.

This is the billion dollar question. Offshore is not cheaper. Statistically, perhaps, but when it comes to real productivity and customer service, it is a con. Helpdesk is terrible. The entire goal is low resolution times but when you can't understand them and they can't understand you, calls lag on while we keep repeating things. Brilliant!

Software dev is worse. 9 AM in Texas is like 8:30 PM in India. That means that the bulk of the day, the devs we work with in India are the ones who work the overnight shift. Think you're getting the top tier devs? Think again. We get the entry level stiffs who are just looking for the next job. And, the fact is, contractors aren't cheap. In SW, we pay about 35-50 an hour for entry level FTEs. Contracts are closer to $100-$150 er hour with most of that going to the contract company, not the developer. At one point I figured that we were paying close to $350/hr for hour our developers submitted based on what they charged us for the projects.

If you don't think palms are getting greased, you are fooling yourselves. Lunches, happy hours, dinners, weekends at the resort/hunting lease, event tickets, travel for conventions.. We aren't actually saving any money on this.

AI will fix this problem. And streamline a lot of other redundant, data-driven positions in management.

Still won't help the stock price tho

It's part of the disposable two year work force that was talked about by you know who.

Cheap labor!
And they do the needful.

Contractors hit a different part of the balance sheet. And Stinky is all about cooking the books to hide his inability to run a successful company.

Because they are cheaper and can be gotten rid of without making the news.

Am sure the Stank would prefer only himself as an employee.
