Isn't an expat by definition accepts an assignment or at least indicate yes I want to be considered for overseas moves/roles?

@1ad this is such an ignorant post I tried not not feed but couldn’t help it. The expats I know were put in some of the most difficult positions that they did not sign up for. If that’s how you think then I hope you’re not one of the folks that stay because there are some amazing people that deserve to.

Now you have to know, if you said no to the survey or you declined the job offer you're a means to an end for leadership that is staying. Think about it, you have skills and knowledge and leadership wants to make their life as easy as possible until they retire or change roles. So, they're going keep all the no's and declines as long as possible and make you train the new people they hire to fill the gaps (yes, there are large gaps in the transformed org) and then they'll still keep you on so that you resign without severance.....YE 2027 is just their "target" and I bet they can/will change it if they need. Then leadership can say they did the best for the company, got new people trained, didn't pay our severance.....all the no's and declines that want a fast exit......I think we're sc--wed.....There will be no caring for the people as a whole, just for the corporation.

@19r That’s true for most folks. But expats didn’t receive a mobility survey, and were assumed to be mobile to anywhere in Canada, not just the location they were at prior to the expat assignment. Expats were also told that if they are offered a position anywhere in Canada and turn it down, they are NOT eligible for severance. So there was no way to “volunteer” to be severed.

@199 can volunteer for severance. Say you are not moving and they will give your job to someone else. Then do everything possible to engineer your way to a quick exit and receive severance. It’s actually quite simple

Just confirmed with my supervisor that they still haven’t received any communication regarding my situation. It’s getting more and more difficult not to assume the results.

I know I am luckier than most, since I am retirement eligible. But I don’t meet the requirements for an unreduced pension, and was planning to work for several more years. But I’m still struggling with the idea that instead of ending my career on my own terms, I am basically being forced out or fired. But I would also feel terrible if a younger colleague had been let go just so I could work for a few more years. It would have been much easier if they had allowed those of us who are retirement eligible to volunteer for severance.

The entire situation just su-ks.

@151 You nailed it! They’re dragging out termination dates to year-end to corner people into quitting so they don’t have to pay severance. It’s a calculated move, and they clearly don’t give a damn about any of us!

@151 According to previously released information, individuals who will be terminated in that calendar year will NOT be included in the ranking process. So, those who know they will be terminated by YE2026 at least can avoid that.

@151 being NSI doesn’t exclude you from, or reduce, your severance. Even folks let go because of performance issues get severance (maybe more).

Key themes that intersect: Cruel and inhumane… by design… to force resignations and minimize payouts… but have the ability to keep as long as possible until individuals can be terminated per business need.

I have no doubt that folks kept until 4Q2026 or later will be positioned as sacrificial NSIs to minimize payouts.

This entire scheme has been very well thought of and orchestrated.

It is completely stupid of the company to expect anything of us while dragging this out. I too show up to collect my paycheck. I no longer care, I am done taking on any new tasks and look forward to starting a new job in a couple of months. I can't wait to watch this t ship stink while I'm on a new boat. Never thought I would see Imperial going this way, but here we are. Best of luck to the dreamers thinking you will still have a long career here

The cruelty implied by the way this process is being managed is beyond belief. Each day I see the company and its culture fade away into something I hardly recognize. At this point the sooner we get the package the better for this ship is taking water much faster than I ever thought possible

Heard from several people (across different groups) who already received their severance notifications that the letter states they will continue to be employed by IOL until a future date, currently anticipated to be sometime in Q4 2026. Not sure if this applies to everyone, but the letter also says this estimated date is subject to change based on business needs.

Talk about keeping us on a leash — just more uncertainty for the next several months until they finally pull the bandaid. Basically, we’re expected to keep doing our jobs until they decide they’re ready to discard us like yesterday’s garbage.

@11a That’s exactly where I am too. I am 99.99% certain that I will be severed. And I’m fine with that. I just wanted to know timing so I can move on with my life. Extremely difficult to stay motivated to get anything done right now.

I am already mentally dissociated from this job and merely collecting the paycheque until my severance date which I hope is soon.

Sadly this is a complete 180 degree shift in behaviour after last year’s announcement.

Give it until the end of January — job offers are still being rolled out. If the top candidates decline, HR will move down the list until all positions are filled. It’s wise to prepare for the possibility that what you’ll be receiving is a severance package — a bitter pill to swallow, but it helps soften the disappointment.

Not necessarily, while you may not have been first pick for a role, you may be a backup for may and if those people decline then you may be offered. Still a week or more of hope left
