Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

SVB giving out WFH exceptions like candy

I keep hearing about all the exceptions to RTO. A colleague said SVB is giving out WFH arrangements like candy. He's worried it will be difficult to recruit, otherwise.

All the exceptions are infuriating. Back office workers should all be treated the same way.

FRTO!

The only ones that can give exemptions are HR and your manager has to provide a very strong reason if it is not a distance exception. Right now there is the agile issue but since everyone in technology is aligning with agile well Agile teams will be forced to comply with the minimum 3 day a week 2 day the next. How hard is that. Don’t complain about RTO they don’t care. Don’t threaten to quit it is getting old and blah blah blah. Threats are only valid once then it is ingested and prepped for. Go find another job that accommodates you. If they don’t have a standard policy guys it is discrimination

There are a lot in Tech that do not have RTO exceptions.

It depends on management.

Some people give away exceptions like candy, while others give away favors under the boardwalk like candy.

All tech except for managers is wfh BUT some people love being in the office and are acting as if everyone is going back. If you love going to an office, good for you. I won’t stop you. But I have a life outside of work. I don’t need to use the office to socialize and get out.

Doesn’t all of tech aside from managers already have an exception?

Excellent leadership, forcing RTO and a mass exodus of talent. Now he's worried.

Yet S B and his head cheerleader TK travel around sprinkling pixie dust hoping no one notices the layoffs coming .

lolz, I'd have to lose skills and take a couple hard hits to the braincase to perform like tech.

This happens in all the LOBs. I constantly see questionable people get WFH. Some folks live just 5 min past me and I know some that live much further. One of the common denominators I've seen is that minorities seem to get WFH pretty easily.

Tech won’t have to worry about RTO after 1Q. The RIP guy is slow on the draw for 2023 layoffs. He must be on PTO for year end.

Good for Saul. He gets it but still has to show support for the rest of the bank. Tech people need to just play along a bit, not make a big deal out of RTO and just wait it out.

It is temporary until collocation is completed at the two main hubs... Hyderabad and Bangalore.

If you're so jealous of IT getting WFH exceptions, why not get some skills and join us?

They are constantly trimming dead wood in Tech. Are all of the appropriate employees being cut, no. But it is certainly no cake walk for the rest of us. RTO makes the least sense for Tech due to the dispersion of all tech teams already. Instituting a long term phased approach where promotions or new hires have to be located near a hub does make sense however. A blanket mandate for tech employees means employees “returning” to locations they had never been to in the first place and in many cases have no coworkers or internal customers to collaborate with. I know several who have been assigned to a local Branch. DBA’s won’t exactly be collaborating with a Teller. If you think Tech is getting some sort of special treatment they are not. They are being phased out and know it.

Good old tech, where compensation and benes like this flow regardless of consistent failure.
