Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Laid off shortly after joining

I joined T-Mobile late last year and was let go on Tuesday. I'm in my late twenties with a technical degree and passed on another offer because the role seemed stable. It's hard to understand how hiring keeps going when cuts are clearly coming. Staying in touch with recruiters turned out to be the smartest move I made.

That's quite a short stint at a company that very recently promoted an HR Department campaign called "Careers, not jobs."

@bn Thank you for that. I understand contractors are often cut first in every company. My point was, I’ve been given more respect and empowerment than I had in a long time as an employee of T-Mobile. I’ve heard similar from previous coworkers. Not always the case clearly but very telling of the change in culture and values at tmo.

@bp US Cellular was just another play for spectrum and coverage just like Sprint. Once the customers are migrated, theres no need for the people that kept it working.

@b0 That's a sh---y thing to say, even if it weren't also thoroughly stupid and uninformed.

@av contractors are always the first to go. Good luck, I mean that.

If you were part of the group of slugs that came over from US Cellular, then good riddance. The only thing those people brought were unreasonable wages and entitlement mentalities. I hate to say it, but they are worse than the Sprint slugs. Both groups infested T-Mobile like cockroaches and are the primary reason for all the layoffs.

Degrees mean butkis. Experience and technical capabilities always win. If you are in a commodity role ( ie lots of others doing the exact same thing) expect to be replaced.

@OP I feel safer as a contractor and more appreciated elsewhere. Never thought that would be possible
