Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

15 year death spiral

I never seen it so bad after 15 years with the company. The pressure on our team to perform without tools and resources with no backfills in critical areas. Now voluntary retirement will have tenured people walking out the door and then we will see the problems really get compounded in our IT department where people are already barely holding it together. I really like my job and the people I work with. I hope I survive the next round of lays offs if voluntary retirement doesn’t do its job of reducing the workers to the benchmark the directors believe they need to get to to satisfy the gods.

The VRP plan is on IRIS. I just read it. It’s in HR Central. The only thing I didn’t see was the Jan 7th notice. But those eligible have to elect participation between Jan 12th and Jan 23rd.

I’m all in. Later Cigna.

@bg This is mis-information. There is no documentation on IRIS at this time. Last year, they got more than expected to take the VRP. We do not even know who all is included yet as well. I highly doubt it comes tomorrow either.

Is the goal to lower the headcount by 5000 total? If not meet by VRP, then layoff?

Contractors would not be eligible for VRP or any kind of severance.

Everyone needs to calm down, only thing announced today and posted on Iris for all to see is the FAQ sheet for the January VRP. Highlights are

  • Approximately 5000 people will be offered it
  • Those eligible will be notified on 1/7
  • On 1/12 those eligible will get a packet and have until 1/23 to decide
  • Those who accept it will be let go on 3/14

The rest of the page just has faqs about the program.

@ba this includes layoffs for people in general regardless of retirement?

@b5 hard to say with certainty. Across the board RIFs and VRP looking for 5,000 volunteers. The fire sale has begun and we’re not out of the first week of January. Good luck to all.
