Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

When do we receive cobra?

For those laid off, does anybody know when we receive our cobra benefits? Are they going to email/mail us a card? Haven’t received anything yet.

@ez

That is exactly what I did too. I saw I was covered until end of Sept. I counted out my 35 weeks and thought it was until around the end of Aug but the paperwork said Sept

I went on Benefits Connect and I am already enrolled in Cobra.

@ca actually, I was wrong!
IT LOOKS LIKE WE DO NEED TO SIGN UP FOR THE VERIZON COVERED COBRA INSURANCE THROUGH BENEFITS CONNECTION.

I received the information in the mail today (which was very confusing and I couldnt tell whether I needed to sign up, or not!!)

I did sign up through benefits connection, and the total annual cost does show as $0.
I did unelect some options that would have cost, such as extra life insurance.
Otherwise, the medical, dental, vision, for myself and my dependents did show as $0.

@az That's my understanding, too. In Benefits Connection, I can see option to elect COBRA now, but I suspect that's because all the Severance paperwork didn't go through, or someone made a mistake on the Benefits website. Just a guess, but it reads like that's really and truly enrolling in COBRA and paying through the nose. When I visit the medical insurance website and login, same as last year, my Healthcare shows as active and all deductible tracking flipped back to zero for 2026, so I assume that's Verizon-paid-for Cobra. I don't need to enroll yet, as per the Severance agreement.

I Got a letter in the mail today pretty explaining everything you need to know. Everyone should be getting theirs soon.

It is my understanding that we are covered exactly like a Vz employee during our severance period (# of weeks is different for everyone), and Vz pays the premiums. AFTER our severance period ends... is when we can choose COBRA, and pay the COBRA premiums.
Please correct me if I'm not understanding the details.
