Thread regarding United States Layoffs layoffs

Job numbers are a joke

There’s no way there was an increase in the number of new jobs created this past month or for November. Especially with all the layoffs. Maybe they are part time jobs!

So what happened to mfg jobs in the US is happening to Engineering jobs in the US. The siphoning off of jobs in the US is accelerating - to places like Ireland who have obscene tax breaks for R&D, and India where it is crazy cheap (not so sure about quality but the people making the decisions are only looking at cost). The Federal government could counter this with higher R&D tax credits, but has not and has not signaled any intention to do so. The current regime probably doesn't even know what an R&D tax credit is. Job numbers are only going to get worse as it pertains to good paying jobs with good benefits. We will be baristas by 2035.

The numbers that came out for increased jobs were for Sept. Layoff season starts in October. BLS said they're just not going to release Oct numbers. Nov won't come until Dec.

Also, because of WARN the actual layoff day is normally 60 days ahead of time, so it doesn't get counted in job numbers until 2 months later.

Nobody is snowing you, you're just looking at old data. I'd expect the real numbers to start showing up in 1Q 2026.
