Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

HR is useless

Why don't they cut the entirety of HR and call it a day? I don't think they ever did anything useful for employees. Nobody would miss them.

Sam is an inspiration. She’s authentic and honest about the state of the business, doesn’t brag about her wealth and life path at all, and just leaves everyone with clarity and purpose in her path. Love where you work love what you do!

@a5 agreed. You'll get a better response and clarification from ChatGPT or Copilot than from the HRBP or that useless chat-box.

HR is not meant to help/protect employees.

All of that is already done in many AI companies by AI and a limited number of people. Please wake up!!!!

To the point...

Their main job is to protect the company and keep the work running smoothly. Think of them as the insurance policy for the owner. They make sure the company doesn't get sued and that everyone follows the rules (like safety codes and labor laws).

Now, they do stuff that helps you—like making sure your paycheck is right, setting up your health plan, and mediating fights—but that's because a happy, healthy worker is a productive worker, and that's good for the company's output and profits. If you have a problem, they'll listen, but they'll solve it in a way that benefits the company first. They're not your union rep or your best friend; they're the company's defense attorney who occasionally helps you out to keep the peace and keep you working.

HR largely largely serves the employer, not the employee. The only thing they ever do for the employee is manage benefits.
