Thread regarding PayPal layoffs

Will this truly last for a few weeks?

Why can't they lay off everybody in a day or two? Why do they have to make it last several weeks? That's weeks of unnecessary stress and anxiety. Is there any chance that the "several weeks" comment is in regards to people who are on vacation and the rest have already been notified or will be notified tomorrow?

Take the uncomfortable, stressful time and make it useful - spend it trying to prepare. Spruce up the resume and start looking for better job opportunities. Save all the money you can while you’re still getting checks, so it can float you a little further until your next role. Do an auditing of your budget and remove the excess (cut down on groceries by meal planning better, downsize the steaming apps, etc. Everything little bit helps.) Network with your coworkers and get on LinkedIn if you aren’t already. PayPal will be just a blip on the radar eventually. Time will pass and you will be so removed from this company because you will have found something much better - so don’t get too caught up in what you can’t control.

Here in Ireland we have to be given 30 days "consultation period".

Several weeks because of law in some countries forcing them to engage in a consultation period to "find ways to save your job" you are only technically laid off after that period is over

seeing how they timed it in a way to prevent affected employees’ shares from vesting I would be worried about the severances “generosity” too
