It's going to be a little bit more busy at the CIC. This is a good change IMO. We really shouldn't have anyone working downtown in any city, unless they need to be there for some legitimate business reason. Lease smaller spaces as need and have admin people work from home or offices in the burbs. Free parking and way cheaper for the company.

Good riddance WF 2. That place was a 1980’s style cubicle farm with nobody home.
I know the CIC is large, but can it accommodate all those employees when the bank shifts to five days in-office, which is widely rumored?
They are consolidating Des Moines, they sold A &b buildings in st. Louis to hotel chains. & announced this week they are getting out of D (& assumed c) in STL as well. They are doing alot of consolidation to save money & space.
WEC DC in Winston is closing too.... Real Estate ads listing it if you google.
Wells Fargo is making big changes to its Charlotte office spaces — including a move out of the uptown building that’s served as an East Coast hub for the bank and its predecessor for nearly four decades. The bank will move employees out of One and Two Wells Fargo Center buildings, according to a memo sent to Charlotte-area employees on Tuesday morning. Wells Fargo declined to say exactly how many workers will be impacted by that move, but it is likely that thousands will be changing offices.
Offices will be consolidated, with workers moving to Three Wells Fargo Center and 550 S. Tryon Street, the former Duke Energy building. Both of those towers will get new names as part of the changes.
The bank will sell Two Wells Fargo Center, spokesman Josh Dunn confirmed Tuesday, and the new owner will control the naming rights. The space that Wells Fargo occupied in One Wells Fargo was already just a small piece of its square footage in uptown, he said, less than 10%. That building will likely get a new name as well when a new tenant moves in.
The S. Tryon Street tower will effectively become the bank’s new Charlotte headquarters. By the end of this year, Wells Fargo will occupy 95% of the office space at 550 S. Tryon, the memo said. The bank already owned the building. Wells Fargo also is making major upgrades to its facilities, renovating 21 floors at 550 S. Tryon and 14 floors at Three Wells Fargo Center at 401 S. Tryon St.
“It’s so much easier for our teams to work together when they are together,” said Mary Mack, the bank’s CEO of consumer and small business banking, in an interview Tuesday with The Charlotte Observer. “We want to create the environment where people want to be here.”
Wells Fargo is based in San Francisco but has its largest employment hub in Charlotte, with about 27,000 workers here.

: @1cti+1kXm93Jm There is a lot of empty office space @ cic. Personally I’ve only see. The “library seating” on one floor and in one section. I think it’s a bad idea personally but I think they are still evaluating assigned seating.
said hundreds of millions to be spent on CIC, including a new parking deck. But how can they add more workers as it is already full of small, low walled cubes? It didn’t meantion a new building. They are also renovating Fort Mill campus which is South of uptown.
So for those of not in CLT (and not on the email), I take it they are leaving 1WF and 2WF, but staying at 3WF, Duke, and CIC.
Aren’t 2WF and 3WF right next to each other with the large combined atrium in between? How will THAT work to exit 2WF, but stay at 3WF? Confusing, but been a few years since I traveling to CLT so maybe I’m not remembering correctly.
Derek Flowers is offended if Mary Mack is considered the highest ranking person in Charlotte
@1kko+1kXm93Jm The same stuff is not happening. In CLT wells is exiting older and leased properties and upgrading newer properties. In SF wells is continually shrinking its presence due to overall costs of real estate and labor, with virtually no benefits long term to SF being the HQ or even a core location.
@1iyu+1kXm93Jm Library style row seating is annoying AF when everyone is on calls.
Love how CLT craps all over staff in SF, yet whines like babies when the same stuff happens to them. Svck it, CLT!
Wait til you see the new seating configurations.
Low / no dividers.
Tables not desks.
Remember to keep your voice down!

I hope so, I haven’t been told yet that I’ll be moved anywhere in particular. The thing that I’m worried about is, as someone said here already, the math doesn’t seem to add up for everyone currently assigned to Uptown to fit into the space that will remain there (assuming everyone actually starts coming in 3 days per week). The group I work in already has a presence in CIC as well, so I’m worried that they’ll decide to consolidate us under that roof to help solve any Uptown seating crunch.
@sly+1kXm93Jm No, she's the highest ranked executive based in Charlotte
Did Mary Mack take Scott Powell’s job? What’s up with her sending the email?
@ugj+1kXm93Jm I think you would be ok. The fact they are trying to populate buildings, they might let you continue working from Uptown. Was you told you were being moved?
Sure, if everyone currently working Uptown who wants to stay is able to, then it’s no big deal. But I literally picked where I live right now in part because of it’s ease of access to Uptown while still being somewhat affordable, knowing I was going to have to go there 3 days per week as mostly a bureaucratic, box-checking exercise. If they suddenly tell me I’m going to have to fight traffic to in a pain-in-the-a** commute despite it providing no tangible benefit to WFC (I haven’t spoken in-person about anything work related with anyone in months)… what’s the point of that? Why make your employees lives harder for no reason? I get that they want to save money in real estate but just let people work from home where it makes sense then.
@ trc+1kXm93Jm correct they just started leasing that building right before the pandemic. I assume it might have been harder to break that agreement than the others.
The old AT&T building is now 300 South Brevard, but I think only Technology resources occupy it.
@nva. They won’t care because they won’t have the extra expenses so it will even out.
It makes good business sense. Exit the leased buildings and populate/renovate the owned properties.
Gotta say - this is one of the few recent announcements that actually makes sense. Combining/consolidating people in Uptown Charlotte into a few buildings rather than having people spread across multiple buildings is completely logical and should have been done ages ago.
Within the Charlotte Metro area, seems like there should be enough office space to allow employees to work in the building closest to home or where their team is located even with consolidating.
All that said, I am sure the higher-ups will find some way to eff this up :(
@dgm there’s clear collision going on among the major corporations specifically financial institutions. Everyone is pushing RTO. You can’t expect local tax breaks if you’re not supporting small business.
Kids are gonna kick and scream until they realize that remote job pays less and doesn’t have the same benefits.
Bye Felicia’s 🏢🏢
The duke energy building was originally going to be 4 wells fargo, with a big build out for CIB. It's the most modern building out there by far, with telepresence etc.
They are sending people to CIC, lots of them. It's right in the comm on the subject.
It’s not better if you’re an employee who lives south of Uptown. Especially if you take the train in. There’s no light rail stop near CIC so I’d go from 15 minute train ride to get to/from work during rush hour to a 25-30 minute car ride, assuming normal traffic and no accidents. There’s 0 reason for me to be in the office already but I haven’t complained too much about RTO since my commute is so easy and I’m a YMCA member so it helps me get to the gym, since there’s one in tbe uptown complex. If they force me into CIC (or the office across the SC border), I’ll now have to pay more for gas, put exponential more wear and tear on my car, and have to go out of my way if I want to work out before or after work. If this is true and they aren’t offering full remote to the employees it would add inconvenience to, I’ll be livid.
Problem is they are taking over the Duke Energy building and wasting hundreds of millions on renovations to all of them. Why?
Because they are going all in on RTO. No one younger than 50 will work at WF when they tell the kids they want to hire they can’t work remote. They expect it and other companies will hire them as such.
wonder what is happening with the old AT&T building - it was not mentioned
Praise be. Fu-k these offices. What a waste!!
Does anyone have the news article or internal memo about this? I am retired from WF and do not have access or subscription to Charlotte observer. Thanks to anyone that might be able to help!
This is very telling of what’s happening really. Not enough people are coming in and the bank is starting to get rid of buildings. With so many people crammed into 3WFC and Duke Energy they will either have to assign days, cut back days per week or allow more full time Remote workers. Not everyone can fit into those buildings- unless they send people to CIC.
Yep yep. CPG, being useful for once.
THree WF and duke energy building (which will be renamed) will still be fully occupied by WF.
