Good point, I doubt GM wants more bad press because of layoffs given their relationship with the president who keeps talking about creating American jobs.
I think GM Leadership will be anxiously awaiting how many retire/leave company after RTO. Tesla & others saw a lot of turnover after RTO. Should be interesting if that number doesn’t amount to much?
So, in other words, expect layoffs at GM since the economy is tanking. If GM isn't being proactive like the tech companies, doesn't that mean things will be much worse once the actual downturn happens?

These comments read like good cop bad cop?
The tech companies over hired during the pandemic bo-m and have to get back to the right size. They literally say this. The Alphabet layoff was less than they hired in the third quarter alone. Plus GM is an automobile manufacturer unlike Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta, etc. We are talking about different industries. That's why they had a bo-m and GM didn't.
Should you listen to the people on here? No

The trend seems to be some raging troll has a problem with WFH.
So far, 219 tech companies have fired 68,149 workers, according to the latest data from the layoff tracker website Layoffs.fyi. Last year, 1,040 tech companies fired 160,000 employees.
Notice a trend?
The economy is finally turning around. I bought eggs for .69 cents like it was 2019! My house is worth 2x and my stock portfolio is up 16%. I’m hoping for in house massages and free food buffets at my next job. So many offers in my inbox. I can’t take this much winning. GM should have let me work from home forever.
The people with skills are not afraid to leave lol if you don't know a bunch of people who are job hopping right now the market is still super hot especially IT
No one is leaving in this environment of mass layoffs. Give me a break.
The management have the productivity metrics. There’s obviously a lot of people ruining it for everyone else. I love working from home but it’s been three years and we are headed into a recession. What do you expect them to do?
The sad truth is that they'll replace some of the the WFH people with people whose backgrounds and ability don't give them such flexibility. The rest of the work will just be piled on whoever's left. It seems unlikely to be a flood of people leaving, though.
Thanks to all of the people quitting on March 1 because they are sad they have to return to work next week, there will be no concerns about excess payroll. There are endless work from home opportunities out there for all those people.
2023 will be a year of opportunities for people who want to work from home.
Who in their right minds will want to join the likes of GM.
Hard to say. Don’t know layoffs in Tech mean layoffs in Automotive. First of all most of the tech companies doing layoffs hired too many people during their Covid bo-m. Those that didn’t over hire actually haven’t announced layoff plans yet. Imo the auto companies were more cautious about hiring during Covid and still have needs for more staff in certain areas. Plus gm has seen a lot of attrition of retirees due to the pension changes with rising interest rates. Having said that if folks were let go imo it would be on a small scale but with the tight labor market and gm still trying to fill spots the odds of layoffs are low right now imo.
