Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Wireless layoff trend

Here’s my take…it seems every Feb and every Oct is the announcement timeframe. Last year it was Thurs 2/10 (first pay week of Feb) with 30 days notice and last pay cycle of Oct with 60 days notice. Should we expect announcements on 2/2 or 2/16? I’ve got resume ready and already applying for jobs to be proactive. After nearly two decades, I think I’ve figured out the system finally. Getting a head start just in case. What a sad way to live and work.

Every year it gets worst in retail. So if they don’t lay reps out this year they are probably going to make so major change to make the situation worst

@rlw+1kR3Hkuc I can already tell there is a ramp up. I am a phone jockey and the amount unneeded transfers, amount of stupid questions being asked in consults. Amount of pi---d off costumers that get dumped on tenured reps
for simple problems are ramping up. This is usually sign that either a SPC center just had d-mb off and hired a new batch or they are getting ready to take more responsibility. Especially the amount of people that don’t know how to properly verifying themselves while calling for a consult are a major sign of it.

Also to be frank THE CUSTOMERS do not
like speaking with foreigners. From the down right racists to the most liberal purple haired customer all have issues when the person on the other line either speaks unintelligibly (I don’t mean accents, I mean vocabulary and syntax) the call gets 2x longer and even simple issues become complicated. I actually like the foreign reps because it helps me get a grasp speaking patterns of different nationalities and helps me understand customers with accents better. This however should not be expected from a customer who just wants to resolve their issue and be on their way.

Personally I don’t give a fu-k about being laid off. In fact I welcome it. I just feel bad for the ones left behind. They are going to deal with a sh-t storm. Especially if they have a blood letting for the team that stores call for support. Its already bad enough for stores dealing with the tenured reps that suck but a new batch of SPC will have the blind leading the deaf.

Thats my 2 cents. You can complain about paying 40-50k for phone jockeys but some departments need that level of pay to attract people that are willing to think outside the box and come up with workarounds for Verizon’s garbage systems and navigate that garbage dump they call infomanager.

If Verizon actually gave a damn they would actually fix their POS (pun intended). Omni 2.0, B360, ACSS etc, if they worked like it was promised you could lay off 75% of all phone jockeys, hire SPC as back up and be perfectly fine. And don’t even get me started on billing. Thank god most people are on unlimited. before unlimited came back proration drove customers up a damn wall.

Lastly, I agree with the poster that said 02/16. Been here long enough to know the pattern for phone jockeys. May the odds be in your favor and I pray for the sanity of those left behind.

@hxp+1kR3Hkuc just waiting for SPC sites to ramp up before letting front line reps go. There is no need to be paying someone 40-50k/year for a job that can be done overseas for a third of the cost. Basic economics …

Maybe things stay quiet for a while.

Timing sounds about right, only wild card is whether the new Silliman hatchet organization accelerates the Oct. round.

Nothing is happening to front line but MAYBE managers being let go. They need the staff in the retail stores.

I was thinking the same time frame, either 2-2 or 2-16. If I had to pick one of those, I would assume 2/2 just because of the timing of performance reviews coming. Who knows though. Just wish I knew what areas will be impacted. Oh well, that is next week so I guess if I’m right, I’ll know soon enough
