Middle management used to have a say in who on their team would be let go if a layoff was occurring. Now that's not needed as the first people to go are the remotes, and HR can figure that out.

Discipline, rigor, measurement are all signs of a well managed company:

I can also attest to their powerlessness. Job Rex's have to be signed off on by Frank, even for those who need immediate fill due to attrition. Micro-managed to the nth degree.

I am a middle manager. I am not even told who is getting laid off until the day of the layoff. Its a joke. They let go of the best employee as he was remote, and act startled when multiple projects he was involved in got affected

Middle managers do not have permission to manage at Fiserv. They even have to ask for Franks permission to use the bathroom. It is a rough couple of weeks when Frank goes on vacation.

Middle management- all the responsibility with no authority to make decisions

That is because they can’t do anything without Frank signing off on it. Seriously it takes a C-level leader to approve travel.
