A Tale of Two Employees

Worker Bee

Get up, coordinate with spouse to get the kids to school. Walks 15 blocks to get to work because the subway is no longer feels safe for her. Gets to the office and looks for a cube finds one but of course it is dirty so it needs to be clean, no cleaning supplies but luckily she and her friends brought some in as well as toilet paper as somehow it always is running out. Opens the thermos of coffee as that amazing coffee bar rolled out last year never has any coffee anymore.

Finally sits down to work and sees her manager has scheduled a meeting over her lunch so now there is no time to get food so she has to use Door Dash which eats up her lunch budget for the week. Luckily she remembers she only finished half her sandwich yesterday due to another emergency meeting and eats a soggy tuna sandwich in between meetings on Zoom as no one she works with is in this office.

Also sees that a very important team-wide meeting has been moved to later hours they say due to west coast participants and she has to figure out how she can get home before the meeting because walking in the dark is not safe.

Has to explain this to her manager in Des Moines who thinks it is all BS and says stop being a baby about returning to office. Warns attitude will be reflected in review.

Same scenario for the C Suiter

Car picks them up and whisks them to the office, Assistant bring them coffee and breakfast as they sit down to eat in their expansive office. Talks to next door C-Suiter and they decide today they will have salads and maybe a baked potato for lunch - thank goodness everything is made to order, Door Dash food is always cold by the time it gets in.

CRISIS No organic non GMO Essence of Rosewater air freshener in the lavatory - scream at assistant to go get this taken care of. Vendor sends theater tickets to C-Suiter in apology

Moved team-wide meeting to later in the day (blames SF because lets face it why not) because they have a reason to stay at work later, the wife is so excited about the surprise theater tickets and gets the nanny to stay and watch the kids and they plan to meet up at 7 pm. Isn't RTO grand!

I’ve been in both roles and honestly I deserve where I am. Maybe pack a lunch and why walk 15 blocks unless you live in a metro where that’s easy/normal? If you aren’t blocking your lunches and end of day, then IDK but you don’t have to go. They can email you for your input. The world won’t end bc you aren’t on a call. I doubt this happens daily. Furthermore, do something about your position if you don’t like it. I was overqualified for my temp role when I started yrs ago. I’m not a “crier” and my boss made me so frustrated I cried twice but I knew I had to stick it out. I mastered that job, moved up and have my own admin now, among other perks/pay. Kudos for the hard work but it’s time to make a plan rather than vent here.

@cnr. You haven’t even seen the results of your poor decision flipping the House but you will…real soon.

I feel for worker bee but for the C Suite folks who earned that good for them. No class envy from me. One minor crtique of a fairly humorous post is she did forget the intrepid employee who validated gelato machines. However, I do despise the people who did not earn their way there. I care more about the lousy managers rating people meets to avoid managing while everyone else has to work harder or the people who got their by nepotism or being in a certain group

I block off sections of my day specifically for lunch and commute times. No early meetings because of my morning commute, and blocked time off in the afternoon for my drive home.
It’s not my fault when someone tries to schedule over them, too bad I’m booked.

Looks like you have a hard time coping with even small struggles in life. How about finding a new job and getting some therapy?
