Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

It's happening all over the place

Now Disney is requiring its employees to return to the office four days a week. It's only a matter of time before we're required to be back five days a week. One by one, companies are pushing RTO on their employees despite overwhelming proof that WFH makes them happier and more productive. But I guess having that empty real estate just sitting there doesn't make those in charge look good, and we can't have that, right?

All those huge fines we keep getting - over and over and over - have GOT to hurt. Why is WF so easily able to shrug those off?

Is it really just "a cost of doing business" that they already plan for ahead of time, and expect?

Long time ago I worked for another big company. We got a $5M fine. It was a big effing deal, and heads rolled. But here at WF we get another billion dollar fine and it's ho-hum.

No, we weren't I have been WFH since 2007. Not everyone was in the office before the pandemic. I work with people in other states, none here. I'll go into the office and sit on teams (gag me) all day and probably chat with old friends at their desk instead of working more.

@1adc+1kCWWxEP I don’t know if you’ve noticed but the “more efficient rivals” are cutting back faster than WF because they don’t have the war chest of revenue to sit on in bad times. A bunch of people from my team in tech went to FinTechs that are laying off much faster than WF. Coinbase and a few others.

I’m not advocating staying here but it’s getting dicey everywhere.

Just remember that if you can sit at home and work from there someone in India can also do your job from a remote location for Pennie’s on the dollar you are being paid. Be careful what you wish for, you may get it.

WFH isn't going anywhere. All that WF is reducing the talent pool, and increasing expenses/risk. Every scandal the company has ever had was the direct result of in person collaboration. In breaking news, people rarely tell others to break the law in writing or recorded conversations.

In any event, FRTO and it's cheerleaders. It won't last forever because it's a failed archaic model. Wells, and the other big banks that did it also, will be bested by more efficient rivals and eventually go out of business. Sure, the execs can do whatever they want, including mo--nic nonsense, but it will fail and when it does it'll be because of backwards enablers made it happen.

For all future RTO posts, please use *RTO in the subject line, so I can skip them. I can't believe some people are still on this topic. Pretty soon, the entire world will return to the office, yet we will continue to plead ignorance on this Board. Don't you realize by now, with your small brains, it does not matter what you post here, the writing is on the wall - take it or leave it!!

Thousands of us were WFH for years before COVID. There's also thousands of people that are not colocated with anyone on their team, hence driving to a building and using Skype, teams, email, and the phone brings zero value when you could do the exact same thing from home. In-office increases risk, reduces our candidate pool quality, and leads to unnecessary expenses / liabilities. Your business case in support of a blanket policy does not meet muster. SOME roles make sense to be in-office, but not all.

Would you clowns get over it. You were in the office before the pandemic and would have still been if it would not have happened. There is a ton of real estate not being used and if they want staff to use it that is their right. You are all a bunch of woke clowns that think you can get whatever you want. You are lucky they are doing the layoffs and giving severance and not just outright firing for cause. Get back on your little pink unicorn and get to work

The old saying holds as true at work as in the gambling hall - the house always wins. You may get to play longer, you may be up, you may be down but, in the end, the house always wins.

Workers sometimes get a moment when they get to run the asylum - like during Covid through to now, but it doesn’t last forever.

Outside the US this isn’t a problem. I’m not talking about the places the US exploits for cheap labor but more like EU countries. You know why? Because people there do not live to work. They get generous time off for work/life balance and when they go into the office 3-5 days/week they are fully productive for the 8 hours they put in. But socialism, amirite?

They have healthy boundaries between work and life. They, generally, keep them separate. They also live in more concentrated areas with viable public transit options. All things this country shunned in favor of suburban sprawl and the personal automobile. It’s all a trade-off, folks.

Just read that Disney story and know that’s exactly what is coming at WF. So frustrating.
