Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Why people still work for Oracle?

because they trust their managers

Is that funny?

Talent in Oracle software, is in demand at the billion dollar companies. They expect you to be a full stack Dev. With 10 years experience.

I see plenty of jobs posted for this, not only in the private sector but also for the federal government. They pay very well and you get benefits out the wazoo.

You just have to get out there and sell yourself.

Never trust your manager at Oracle.

In the Corporate world, trust anyone, anywhere only to a certain point, not just Oracle. Be honest, be ethical, but always keep your cards close to your chest. When it comes down to you are somebody else, guess who gets it? I know it sounds like a horrible way to exist, but a) some things don't ever need to be known and b) many things are just plain nobody's business. Just smile and walk away. TMI is very much a thing. Ultimately, in the business world, only you are responsible for you.

I've got interesting work and ok paid. Why would I start hopping in the middle of the recessions with lots of companies laying off staff?

Haven't you been paying attention here? You were supposed to quit your job at Oracle and go work at Salesforce, because they don't have mass layoffs ... oh, wait.

Been interviewing all over and skills at Oracle have little value.

It’s not the “popular” languages, tech, or industries. Startups want people with scaling experience, not dinosaur exp.

Never trust your manager at Oracle. I worked with multiple managers, all of them scheming against me, cheating people, lying the big lies. Don't trust your manager.

To the people who state they stay because of salary. What you have to weigh is do you have enough to get by if you get let go. Meaning, salary will be nada until you find a gig. Reduce the time of being unemployed from what you currently make. Sooner or later unless you are the chosen few for the moment, you will be let go. If you are financially set and can put up with all the BS and noise, milk it. If you need the income, you might want to weigh your probability of being there over the next year or so. A little reduction in salary as long as you can take care of your family is better than being out there trying to get another opportunity. Also, are your skills in demand? If not, that should be a focus.
