Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

This RTO obsession has gone completely off the rails.

People are exhausted, wasting hours every week commuting just to sit in overcrowded offices on calls they could’ve done better from home. There’s zero trust left between leadership and employees, and every new “presence report” or “compliance check” only drives the wedge deeper.

Instead of showing empathy or even basic flexibility around the holidays, leadership doubles down like robots with no understanding of how real people live and work. Every decision is designed to make life harder, not to make the business better.

And for what? Headcount cuts without severance to fake numbers to Wall St. so we can pretend like the company is in good standing and stink can pull his Golden parachute right before the Sh!t hits the fan?

The people who are sticking around just to reach retirement aren’t the future of this company. The ones leaving, the under 50 high performers, the problem solvers, the people who actually care are the ones you should want to keep. But you’re pushing them out, and they ARE leaving.

If this continues, in five years AT&T will have gutted its talent base completely. The knowledge, the innovation, and the passion that built this company will be retired or gone for the “industry standard” hybrid or WFH arrangement. Anyone left will be the low performers with no options because nobody new is joining this toxic company. That’s not leadership, that’s destruction disguised as discipline.

It’s time to stop pretending this is working. Bring back flexibility, rebuild trust, and give people a reason to stay.

Take your sick days to recuperate from having to go into the office unnecessarily. If you are feeling that much stress, take a day off to recoup.

@OP end of 2025 continues to look bad for everyone. Management to identify badged employees for next round based on salary, performance and organizational contribution, then identity offshore employee who can do the same work.

Covid is over.

Get off the couch. Get back in the office. And get back to work.

The party is over. Welcome back to the real world.

Keep up the pressure on Stankey. He's feeling the heat, that's for sure. Just a matter of time before he cracks and gives in to us. Bigly.

@bq "requesting more information on how to improve the situation" has been done many times in the past, but it has resulted in no tangible changes.

My leadership went through the motions of "requesting more information on how to improve the situation", and when they received it, their response was nothing more than "Here are some existing resources that have been available to you for years. You should take advantage of them." or "You need to start taking more training to keep current with our (ever changing) strategies and priorities."

In other words, leadership offered nothing new. They just recycled the same old stuff that is simply weak, tired, and overdue for updates.

Some people have posted “why complain because it doesn’t do any good”?
Au Contraire!
You see, some orgs have back peddled from the “unapologetic” rhetoric and have even begun follow ups to the surveys, requesting more information on how to improve the situation.
I think this board, along with the Forbes survey results, have been a black eye for the company and more importantly, the company realizes it hurts recruitment and retention of good employees.

If you are going to get paid and not work, at least show up in the office and pretend.

AT&T doesn’t have the skill or expertise to replace people with ai, and they won’t pay someone with the skill enough to do it. Ai experts demand a small fortune.
A person like that also wouldn’t work at a company with an RTO regime.

It’s a pipe dream.

Family Feud did a survey and asked 100 people to name a Clue that means a Company is Toxic

Survey Said

RTO 95
Yugo 3
Applesauce 2

Most college graduates have never heard of a Yugo. But they do recognize a toxic relationship between the company and the employees.

As Dr. Phil would say to AT&T “how’s that working for you?”

The best and the brightest won’t stay here.

Regress To Office is a tool to eliminate headcount by increasing headaches

The C Suite geniuses erroneously believe that AI - artificial ignorance, is the key to success. They also believe that eliminating Americans from the equation and replacing them with contract , overseas workers is key.
Wrong on both counts.

Don’t be a Yugo they said. Oy Vey

@az I will find a new job. I’ll be gone within 3 months, as will many others. I hope you have fun sticking around picking up the pieces and doing the workload of 3-5 people all by yourself, assisted. You’re a joke.

Don’t like RTO then find a new job. Too bad so many unqualified employees can’t find another jobs but don’t want to RTO.

No. There are lots of downsides to RTO but the real pain of it is dealing with buttkissers like you all day. I bet you chuckled to yourself after posting that inane drivel.

@as if that’s the case then what’s the need to show up at all? The facade is “collaboration” but there will be no one to “collaborate” with. I should just sit in the office alone?? Make it make sense…

Work conditions will be better during the holidays. Less traffic and more day-to-day employees on PTO. This is a bonus.

Yep they are sc--wed. Job market starting to show signs of picking up. Recruiters are starting to call again. Just a matter of time. Btw all the jobs are hybrid or wfh. Nobody with any sense in doing 5x unless they are trying to cut headcount’s. but that the whole point, we already know that. Good luck. Someone don’t forget to turn the lights out, gotta cut that costs.

Exactly. If the execs had any clue how many core employees on their “critical initiatives” are just weeks away from being employed by someone else, they’d lose it… The people holding this place together are the ones leaving and they have no backup plan for that!!

@a9 this!!! It gives me a warm happy feeling secretly knowing how sc--wed they are while they don’t even know it themselves. Problem is the c-suite DRs paint a false rosy picture to make it seem like everything’s great and people are happy.

But the truth is you can only push people so far. After a year of this BS everyone’s had enough and lost hope things might change… Why do 5x RTO for this joke when I can WFH or be hybrid for a better company.

If you thought turnover this year was bad, wait until you see how many people leave next year.

If Stankey Legg knew how many of GenAI, DataLock, and Artemis teams were weeks away from being at different companies, they’d sh-t their pants.
You can’t put a price on elite talent / domain knowledge, but these mo--ns continue.

Just look at the churn rates in TDP alone, they lose 25%+ within the first year from RIT, UT, GT, & UCB.

@a5 how do those boots taste, troll? Guess what. Stank doesn’t care about you, and you’ll be laid off just like anyone else. Hope you don’t shed a tear when your time comes. Being their cheerleader isn’t going to save you. They don’t care about you. Wake up!

@a4 buddy, shouldn’t the company want that?? It’s 8 & skate now. I hate RTO, but my hours have significantly decreased, which is good for me but not for the company. Oh well. I’ll just continue to show up and check the box until I am layed off or retired.

Been here first 12 years of my career now. Thought this RTO game would blow over after this year and we would return to 3 days.
Instead we were just told that our orgs average hours numbers no longer look good and Stank is pi---d. (Can’t believe this is what a CEO is concerned about)
I’ve started applying to other jobs. I know im good at my job and will get offers. I don’t really want to leave, but I can’t do another year of this BS.
